Final stage and we are in Los Angeles for a 96km sprint stage to end the Tour of America. Kashechkin was the most consistent and has teh leader jersey being in top of the podium ahead of last years 1-2 Kiserlovski and Anton.
For those it`s just about avoiding any conflicts today.
115 riders are left in the race, which means we had 25 abandons. Mainly helpers and sprinters but also a Top10 rider in Gadret. We hope that all their injuries will be gone soon.
And with a limited amount of sprinters the stage favourites become easier to name.
Mezgec and Santos are the only remaining stage winners and will most likely be challenged by Manan, Salleh, Cooke, Zabel, Tzortzakis, Aguilar, Vesely or Eefting to name the remaining sprinters.
4 riders in the usual breakaway even though the final stage rarely ends in a breakaway success.
Hnik
Piamonte
Dennis
Barton
One rider has to be mentioned here. Rohan Dennis is by far the last non control rider. And even though he was often dropped as one of the first riders in the mountains he always fought and stayed inside the time limit. So great effort by him to end the race.
With Greipel, Serebriakov, Farrar out, we have a different situation to the first sprint stages.
Today it`s mainly Meiji`s, Sram`s and Prio Porto`s task to catch the breakaway.
With 45km left and a gap of just a bit over 3min it`s looking good for them.
There aren`t many sprinters left. Still we see one of the best sprint preparations in this race with 3 great trains.
Oliveira Sousa Edmondson Allonca Young Bouhanni Santos Mezgec Manan Salleh Cooke Zabel Eefting Popov Tzortzakis
The Meiji train works the best as Bouhanni is the strongest leadout.
Young goes strong but Mezgec is still behind Sousa.
Santos though also in a good position while Cooke has to go the long way on the right.
Bouhanni has brought Manan to the last 800m. Great leadout. Will he be able to get his first win in this years race after taking the opener last season?
Also Santos in the wind now while Mezgec tries to come back from further behind.
Young Zabel on the left could also be a danger.
Mezgec with a strong acceleration as he equals Manan and Santos. So the three top sprinters left battling for the win with Lobov, Tzortzakis and Salleh being behind those.
250m and still so close. Who will take this final stage?
It`s Bruno Santos with another stage win. Great season for the Portuguese.
Manan just ahead of Mezgec for the 2nd.
Tzortzakis, Popov and Salleh as next.
So this was a great Tour of America I think with Kashechkin being a deserved winner and an important one as well for his Repsol team, who are in huge relegation danger. Will this race move them up far enough?
Kiserlovski and Anton complete the podium. CSC also with needed points.
So the relegation battle will still keep exciting with WWE performing well while Oz and Cisco might have hoped for a bit more even though their leaders did well here.
Biggest loser in the relegation battle might be LukOil as they haven`t scored a lot here with one of the weaker teams. Some good stage results but not that much.
Also some bad luck for Sauber today as Kung crashed and despite him not being their best GC men they decided to send Jiriakov and Schurter to him which makes them lose one spot each.
