Christmas 2013 - books cycling
jacobjc88
Hey guys!

My family have been asking for a wishlist for quite a while now,
but I haven't really come up with anything except money, which they
refuse to give me.....So I thought of getting some books about cycling.

The Secret Race, Yellow Fever (Michael Rasmussen), the new book about Team Sky and lots of other have I heard of....Have anyone read any of those books and can you recommend some of them, as a "must read" ?

Could use some help here Grin

A Dog in a Hat is a fantastic book about what life is like as an average pro, well written with a pretty balanced outlook on the whole thing. Sweat of the Gods is a nice analysis of the history of pro cycling and I'd also recommend Tomorrow We Ride (Jean Bobet's autobiography with a focus on his relationship with Louison).

Overall there's a good selection of cycling literature, although autobiographies tend to be very hit and miss as a lot of cyclists are very egotistical.

"Rough ride" and "we were young and carefree" have both stood the test of time

Please assume I am joking unless otherwise stated

"Put Me Back on My Bike: In Search of Tom Simpson" great read about the legendary figure and is my absolute recommendation. Equally "The Death of Marco Pantani" is a great read about il pirata.
I'd always recommend "How I Won the Yellow Jumper". Charts the TDF from the point of view of one of ITV's reporters. Very funny and nicely different to the standard cycling literature.
Otherwise all i read are Lance Armstrong stuff, and of course we are all sick of that, or specific stuff to UK cycling, namely autobiographies by our main guys like Hoban, Millar etc.

These are the ones that are on my list. Obviously, I haven't read them, so no idea if they are any good.

Project Rainbow (af Rod Ellingworth)

Seven Deadly Sins: My Pursuit of Lance Armstrong (af David Walsh)

Domestique: The True Life Ups and Downs of a Tour Pro (af Charly Wegelius og Tom Southam)

At Speed (af Mark Cavendish)
