Last stage of the 2nd week and it`s something for the sprinters again.
Some like Rowe, Awang or Ferrari already abandoned.
But Serebriakov, Greipel, Mezgec and Castaneda are still here and all of them want to take a 2nd win.
6 riders in todays breakaway. No GC danger but with Devine an interesting rider for the KoM competition.
Oliveira
Bespakov
Devine
Schurter
Zaini
Hnik
Devine takes the first KoM sprint and this way is back in the lead after losing the jersey to Sousa despite having the same points.
2nd KoM and this time he attacked too late, so he only takes 3rd behind Schurter and Zaini.
But as he is the only interested he can easily extend his lead today.
In the peloton we see the 3 sprinter teams Hollister, WWE and Volkswagen to higher the pace. With 110km to go and a gap of 8min it`s time.
Next time Devine was the fastest again taking 6 more points.
Also on the last KoM he is taking more points even though it`s just 2 as he crosses the line 3rd.
So he collected 20 points in total today, which is also his gap to Sousa now.
It doesn`t look very quick as only Sutherland is doing the pace at the moment. But he is gaining a lot of time on the breakaway.
And as we are still high in the mountains it even started to snow. Freezing cold.
Being in the valley again it`s much warmer luckily.
But the gap is down to 1'20 with 10km to go.
Volkswagen with 4 riders in front, while Castaneda is the last behind Sieberg and Zabel.
And the group is caught as well.
Zabel couldn`t follow Sieberg and so Castaneda only has one leadout here.
Sieberg Castaneda Serebriakov Farrar Greipel Vesely Popov Manan Young Santos Salleh
The only real favourite missing is surprisingly Mezgec.
Sieberg starts the sprint and creates a gap. Obviously he is the stronger of them, while Castaneda looks exhausted after all those climbs.
Out of nowhere Santos comes on the left with a huge speed. He started the sprint in ~15 position as there was actually a small gap ahead of him with some helpers in between.
Farrar, Serebriakov and Greipel have seen it and leave Castaneda`s wheel, while Sieberg is still in front.
Big gap for Santos now!
Greipel and Farrar try to come back while all others are further behind.
Greipel came close in the end and had the higher speed.
But it`s enough for Santos to celebrate a great win. So yet another sprinter winning a stage here. They really share the wins here.
Farrar in the end losing a bit and finishes as 5th. Popov in 3rd and Vesely as 4th with good results.
Chicchi as 6th with his best performance I think, while Young, Salleh, Zaini and Manan complete the top10.
Castaneda, Serebriakov and Mezgec the big losers today.
