August proved to be a long month, but also a very important one. Two big HC stage races in Portugal and Hellas, plus a variety of other races. A key month across the PCT and CT divisions, but arent they all?

Prio-Porto shone on all levels. A highly competitive home race at the HC Volta a Portugal, followed by overall victory at the C1 Baltic Chain Tour and the C2 Tour do Rio. They have really forged forwards from an expectation of midtable to anonymity, to serious Top 10 contenders.

Tinkoff also scored well in Portugal and re-affirm themselves as the PCT team to beat, while Vueling's promotion hunt gathered momentum with 2 stage races for Thomas Dekker, and a classic for Peter Kennaugh. There was also 3 wins for Team Gazelle - again the runaway team in the CT division.

A crucial month at the lower end of the PCT table too, with relegation battlers Lukoil, CSC, Cisco and Swedbank all making the Top 10 of August.

Besides Gazelle, it was a good month of points scoring for the likes of Mobil-Castrol, Iberia and Kappa in CT.

Rothaus lead no more, and infact slip down to 4th. ING led briefly, but it is Tinkoff who have topped the table for most of the month. Vueling are now right in the mix too, up to 3rd, as gaps start to emerge at the top. Bouygues Telecom are just about in touch, but a little daylight is starting to emerge behind them.

Prio are the months big movers as they climb 6 places to 9th, while Swedbank also did well and have gained 5 positions to make it into the Top 20.

At the bottom, PFG-Armavia, WWE and Repsol are all losing touch - but the battle to avoid the remaining 2 drop spots is as busy as ever. CSC and UPC currently reside there, but less than 200 points separates the 10 teams in positions 18-27.

What a month it has been for Vueling Airlines, as they climb from a previous position of 8th to top the projected standings. It has been less fortunate for Bpost and Hollister - top 2 in July, now down to 5th and 6th here. But as you can see, very little separates Rothaus and Bpost inparticular - so there is still hope for them yet.

While Vueling look increasingly likely to bounce back to the ProTour, the same cannot be said for Bouygues Telecom. They are not scoring enough points per race day, considering that only Metinvest and Pivovarna Lasko have raced more than them.

And it is Pivovarna Lasko who look set to be thrusted into the relegation battle, despite their current position of 19th. The suggestion is that UPC and CSC-Orbea will do battle for that final relegation spot, but the likes of Oz Cycling and Swedbank in particular are far from safe.

Timofey Kritskiy reinforced his position at the top of the division by winning in Portugal, while Thomas Dekker celebrated two stage race wins this month, beating Rein Taaramae in Greece. But the Top 3 have now ended their seasons, and will not improve upon their totals.

This opens the door to the sprinters behind them - Napolitano, Vantomme, Hoffman and Davis. Although Kritskiy will be hard to catch. Roche is the best placed puncheur, and will also have hopes of rising up the table.

Gazelle continue to run away with it, with Iberia and Kappa too looking well placed behind them in the promotion fight.

Allianz-BMW remain in a promotion position as well, while Mobil move into the Top 10 after being the 2nd best scoring team in the division. Kenya find themselves dropping down, with Magna fixing themselves to 9th place.

Inactive teams in both PCT and CT can give hope still to those outside the Top 10, so the toing and froing between the likes of Privatbank, Risa-Ergon and MTN can still be important.

At the lower end, both FB Barcelona and Boeing-Vivacom have slipped down, while Credexbank have managed to move themselves into the Top 20.

Gazelle are on target for a mightily impressive 3000+ score, while Iberia will also have done very well if they do indeed pass the 2000 points mark.

Kappa are the most raced team in the division but seem to have done enough to be safe - the battle is racing behind them with Mobil-Castrol up into a projected automatic promotion spot.

In contrast to Kappa, Boeing-Vivacom have raced less than anybody, so can still find themselves moving up the table. Adira-Isq too have more to come once they really get going in the final 2 months of the season.

What a horrific month, less that 5 PPrd

Expecting us to drop out of promotion contention now, which is a shame as we looked so good in the early stages of the season.

The season could go either way now. We need a great race in Alsace to have any chance of promoting now, with the Faso and Utah both promising little points.

Not bad but Vineyards cost us a lot ditto the last stage in the Baltic Chain Tour. Napolitano is 55 points off Bennati's score with 8 race days left so he should reach that and hopefully 2nd in the rankings. I hope to catch HTC and Metinvest also.

Oh oh oh... Ain't looking good, as expected. And the pprd should go down with the Tour of America, too. I really need Rogers to do better in his last races, as well as finding back to the "score with depth" that made us stronger in the rankings earlier this year.

Depents on the Tour of America. I doubt you'll score 200+ points there, but you never know. If you do then promotion should be assured, a great achievement considering your riders.

We can't fail now. This is way too close to happen. We can't fail to score points from now on and hopefully, that 5th place will be ours.

Depents on the Tour of America. I doubt you'll score 200+ points there, but you never know. If you do then promotion should be assured, a great achievement considering your riders.

I've already said that Tour of America will be where my promotion fight will end. But yeah, promotion was unthinkable at the beginning of the season for me.

Looks like promotion should be well within reach, but both Scarponi and Marzano has only one race left. In the two races after that, we will at best win a participation badge, so we need good results from both Marzano and Scarponi to secure the third position.

I look at the pct rankings and I simply cannot understand Bintang, they looked on paper like they had a really decent promo hunting team.

Is it pcm12 or just a strangely planned season or a mixture of the two?

In the main the promoted teams from cdiv2 have struggled, but that was to be expected they had virtually no trading assets and could only sung from the highly competitive free agents pool. HTC, AMEX, Metinvest and Evian should be congratulated.

Going to be a really close battle at the top of the pct, but perhaps less so in the ct but as SN says inactivity possibly intensifies things.
