Carrerra, Possoni, Weening, Engels and Velo made the breakaway.
And on the 2nd climb of the day, Carrerra, Possoni and Weening started to pull away.
Engels and Velo came back in the descent. They were also joined by KoM point chasers, Rodrigues, Danielson, Perez Cuapio and Florencio.
They refused to work together and the peleton caught them, all apart from Xavier Florencio.
On the next climb, Pecharroman, Sevilla, Abal and Castano all joined Florencio.
Florencio and Castano were dropped by the foot of the final climb though, and Abal was soon falling backwards.
Kloden kickstarted the attacks but Menchov rode an unbelievable pace and none of the attackers could get away. Well, except for Vinokourov.
And his gap soon grew as he passed Sevilla and Pecharroman. Perez Cuapio is the only other rider who managed to get away from the peleton.
Being the final proper climb of the tour, the organisers made it nice and steep. The chase group continued to attack each other but noone could get away.
But then Rujano and Dekker did manage to get a gap.
Rujaano takes 2nd in a tight sprint with Perez Cuapio 3rd and Dekker missing out in 4th.
