Tour of Hellas - Stage 3
roturn
img203.imageshack.us/img203/5332/5o2y.jpg

Yesterdays stage led to the first selection with 15 riders still fighting for the win most likely. And todays stage is a good challenge for some of those. Even though the final looks pretty easy we have some tough slopes here and so you must be focussed all the time.

img42.imageshack.us/img42/4865/bdoa.jpg

4 riders form the breakaway. But it took until the Cat.1 climb until a group successfully created a gap as many riders also wanted to join.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/mti_zps330e0e2d.png Sheydyk (30./+4'56)
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/bin_zps9ee3c16e.png Seledkov (78./+11'41)
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/sbp_zpsa477b496.png Bjelkmark (46./+6'06)
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/rep_zps8fe99b28.png Vasquez (118./+18'07)
So the Repsol climber, who lost so much time yesterday surprisingly decides to enter the breakaway. A stage win is the new goal for him.

img823.imageshack.us/img823/9726/7y8h.jpg

Sheydyk with a bit under 5min is the most dangerous and so Vueling is going a low pace as the danger is not the biggest.
Still 14 riders already lost contact in the early phase and we have some good sprinters like Ferrari, Borrajo, Matzka, Di Nucci, Brea or Haddou.

img14.imageshack.us/img14/5592/emwr.jpg

All 4 riders are interested in the KoM points as the Cat.1 already gives as many points as the actual leader.
Sheydyk takes it with Seledkov, Bjelkmark and Vasquez following.
This is also the problem for the last mentioned. Even though he is a great climber he does not like the shorter climbs that much. So he might even be the weakest today and he obviously picked a bad stage to attack as other stages suit him so much more.

img826.imageshack.us/img826/5593/9jf3.jpg

Chaabane and Delgado were in yesterdays group and collected a few KoM points. So they show interest also today to win the jersey and take the next points. That`s 6 and 4 at least, while Geniez takes the last as he was riding in the first position.

img27.imageshack.us/img27/5385/2wtq.jpg

Seledkov wins the next KoM with Sheydyk and Bjelkmark behind him. With 2 more KoM climbs this might deliver some excitment.

img708.imageshack.us/img708/7425/f5gt.jpg

68km and still more than 7min for the group. And as Vueling seems to be relaxed other teams come to the front to higher the pace.
LukOil, Hollister and ING next to Vueling.

img13.imageshack.us/img13/2803/a3sw.jpg

Next sprint and we have the same order as the last time. Seledkov and Sheydyk obviously will fight for the jersey on the last KoM.

img820.imageshack.us/img820/9618/hrvq.jpg

Wow. 55km and the gap is up to 9'40. Obviously the new teams did even go slower than Vueling.
But finally we see a team going faster as Vespa is doing a bit more now. But the stage is probably for the breakaway now.

img855.imageshack.us/img855/8938/1dlu.jpg

Indeed it`s higher now. Within 7-8km the peloton gained 1'30. If they continue like this even the stage win is not totally out of range for the GC riders.

img36.imageshack.us/img36/1499/aqpu.jpg

Sheydyk has obviosy safed some energy for this last KoM and takes it easily ahead of Seledkov and Bjelkmark. This also means that the Metinvest rider is the next KoM leader in this race as he is 2 points ahead of Seledkov.

img7.imageshack.us/img7/8457/kqyl.jpg

That last climb was too much for Vasquez. He lost contact and is already closer to the peloton. It might be the hills or eventually it`s also an injury as we mustn`t forget that he crashed yesterday.

img841.imageshack.us/img841/945/kw8m.jpg

14km left and Bjelkmark is the first rider to attack. Was this the deciding attack? The other two just look at each other and don`t follow.

img34.imageshack.us/img34/5108/7dff.jpg

10km to go and Vasquez is caught. It`s just not his race so far.
Vespa still doing the main work and reduced the gap to 5'12. So it`s still a big gap but then again the biggest danger is almost gone.
And also the hilly stage did play out nicely for the GC riders. None of them wanted to waste energy before tomorrows mountain stage and so the peloton is still very big with 117 riders.

But still it was too fast for some sprinters. Also Davis and Bole are gone already while the group of the early dropped riders is ~20min behind.

img13.imageshack.us/img13/3295/qken.jpg

5km mark and Bjelkmark is caught again. So it looks like a sprint of those three.

img849.imageshack.us/img849/8074/tpa8.jpg

Seledkov is leading out during the last 3,5km as no other rider wanted to take the first position. This obviously slowed them down a lot and the peloton is coming very close.
Still with 1,5km to go the gap of 148 should be enough.

Sheydyk at least thinks so and starts the sprint first.

img28.imageshack.us/img28/3351/8g4d.jpg

Was the surprise that big? Or did the others spend too much energy?
With 1km to go he already has a huge gap.

img594.imageshack.us/img594/550/l2l9.jpg

What a day for him. First the KoM jersey and now also the stage win. Perfect day and a great success for Metinvest, who still hope for Popovych to show his ambitions in the later stages.

img203.imageshack.us/img203/4204/mea5.jpg

Seledkov takes the 2nd ahead of Bjelkmark. Solid results but in the end they had to admit that Sheydyk was the strongest.
And actually their gap was reduced heavily as the peloton is just38s behind so they almost lost the stage or 5min in the last 10km!!

img19.imageshack.us/img19/6420/imtn.jpg

Kolesnikov proves once again that he is a strong sprinter after a hard stage plus the limited sprinters in the peloton helped him as well. So he takes the 4th ahead of one of the last real sprinters in Vasylyuk, who is quite a surprise today. But it just completes a good team result.
Popov and Klimov come in next ahead of Anderson, Taaramae and Levarlet. Dekker safely finished as 11th.

img580.imageshack.us/img580/7987/x3me.jpg

There clearly is a gap at the end of the peloton and surprisingly some GC riders are in there like Ratiy, Kiserlovski, Anton or Devolder are in there.

But lucky guys. The officials obviously didn`t see the gap and so they don`t lose time. But surely they must be more concentrated the next time.

And important for some other teams. Nobody has to abandon today as all riders made it in the time limit.
