*Seeing as Malkael has not created a thread yet, this will have to do for now*
The 107th Giro di Lombardia, also known as "The Classic of the Falling Leaves", will depart Bergamo and finish in Lecco, spanning 242 kilometers. The last meaningful race of the season will certainly be hotly contested, especially after the results of the WC Road Race. If the race goes according to plan, we should expect the riders at the finish at around 17:00 CET.
Upon leaving Bergamo, riders will head east through the Bergamo valley, where they will soon loop back in a more northwesterly direction. The first climb of the day faced by the riders will be the Valico di Valcava, which is 9.6 km at 9%, with a max of 17 %. Percentages at the foot will be quite low, however, the gradients kick up towards the top. Nonetheless, this climb is very early on and most certainlyl won't make any difference.
Riders will continue to head northwestward following the descent towards San Sosimo, the first feed zone at 100km. The cyclists will negotiate the small climb of Colle Brianza and the descent, before reaching the Colma di Sormano with 90km to go.
The Colma di Sormano, the next big climb on the day, starts with a subtle 5km section at 6%. After that riders hit the dreaded Muro di Sormano, a 2km section averaging 15.8%, with a max of 25% in the middle of the climb! Although it's too early to be decisive, the non-contenders and domestiques who have done their work for the day will start to drop back.
The riders will face a technical descent toward Nesso, and reach the second feed zone of the day with a little more than 70 km to go. From there the route loops back southeastward, and a 15km flat section ensues.
Don't be fooled by the 6.2% average gradient of the Madonna del Ghisallo, as there is a 2.5 km flat section in the middle of the ascent. The climb kicks off at percentages of 9% or so for 3km, hitting a max of 14%. After the flat section, the climb kicks up at 9% again for another 2km. This climb will certainly be the springboard for some early attacks from outsiders to try their luck, but of course it will only give an small indication of how the big guns are feeling. As the pace picks up with 50km to go, unfit riders and heavy legs will continue to drop out the back.
Riders will have about 30 km to recover as the race continues to follow a general south or southeasterly direction. In doing so they will pass through Valbrona, Onno, and Oggiono, where they will so face the final and decisive climb of the day.
At last we reach the climb of Villa Vergano, where the fireworks will be sure to begin with only 15 km to go. The climb is 3.3 km long with an average gradient of 7.4 %. The first couple kilometers only average 6%, where favorites will begin to launch attacks. However, after that, the real action will begin, as the gradient kicks up to an average of 11.7 %, reaching 15 % at its steepest. This portion will only last a kilometer, but attacks left and right will certainly be decisive.
The descent will start with less than 7 km to go and is 3 km long. From there the riders enter Lecco with about 3 km to go, and the profile is pancake flat to the end. If a select small group comes through first, it could mirror how the WC played out. After the riders pass through the flamme rouge, a right, left, and then another right turn at 200m will lead the cyclist(s) to the finish line, where the 2013 Champion will be crowned.

Joaquim Rodriguez will be certainly looking to defend his title from 2012, and will be seeking revenge for his WC loss to Rui Costa. And speaking of Rui Costa, what will be the strategy that Movistar employ with him and Valverde, who is taking blame for Spain's loss at the WC. Also in that select group at the World Championships was Vincenzo Nibali, who will also be looking to contest the title. These four should certainly be a cut above the pack, given the form they have shown.
Should the last climb of Vergano be ridden slowly or if a larger group makes it over the top, we can expect riders like Peter Sagan and Philippe Gilbert to be the top dogs in a sprint.
Outside of these riders it is really anybody's guess. Other contenders include Uran, Ulissi, Scarponi, D. Martin, or Moreno.
Feel free to discuss below, and if I missed anything be sure to tell me.

Have missed the Vuelta, missed the Worlds, will also miss Lombardia...
Should try to find more time next season.
Just betted my last 10$ on Nibali. When I have as much luck as with my previous bets, I will surely finish the season with 0$. |

Can't say I'm expecting much. Might as well tune in just before the start of Villa Vergano, as I doubt anything will happen before that anyway due to the awful route. God, I wish they'd return to the old parcours
Rooting for Purito, but I'm also holding Ulissi as a bit of an outsider

Seeing the World Champion win Lombardia would be pretty nice. Still hoping for Nibbles, or even Urán to make up for that crash in the Worlds.

Not surprising to see him dropped on Valcava if they do it kind of fast. I don't think he has any chance anyway.

Not surprising. Should go all in for Basso. He already said he would be with the best. |

Out of context and literally, it says he's gone off the road, but here it means he's abandoned the race. |
