The final stage of the race is a short 60km criterium around Geelong. The sprinters will all want a bunch sprint to decide the victory, so their teams should ensure any attacks do not stay away. The pre-stage favourites are Guillen, Peeters and Thorsen. Surprisingly there is no mention of Renshaw, who has won both flat stages so far.
The race starts off at a fast pace, with no attacks being let go. The sprinters' teams even go as far as to set up leadouts for their fast men ahead of the first couple of intermediate sprints.
Guillen takes the first comfortably, before Peeters wins the second.
1st 2nd 3rd Sprint 1 Guillen Papok UwimanaSprint 2 Peeters Guillen Papok
After those though, a purposeful attack is finally made, by Mundle. He isn't a threat at all in the overall, but has been in a break before during stage 2.
By the time he reaches the third sprint of the day, 25km from the finish, he has an advantage of 1'30". He collects full point, as the minor placings are swept up by Peeters and Guillen.
Mundle holds that gap into the final 20km, where the chase should really accelerate.
It does, as JKCP set a high tempo on the front of the peloton which brings the gap down closer to a minute. There is still the complication of a final intermediate sprint, which could disrupt the chase.
Mundle wins the final sprint 15km from the finish, where his gap passes under a minute for the first time. This is partly due to the fast sprinters though, who through Peeters and Papok take the minor placings.
The sprint doesn't disrupt the chase much, with JKCP still dominating the chase moving towards the final few kilometres.
Into the last 10km, Mundle only holds a gap of 35". He could stay away, but that looks unlikely.
Meanwhile, Allianz have moved to the front of the peloton in order to set up a sprint train for their fastman Thorsen. They further close the gap to below 30".
Nearing the 5km to go mark, the Liechtenstinian has nearly been caught. Allianz look in pole position for the sprint, with JKCP trying to set up a train among others.
The catch is finally made, with the JKCP train pulling into the lead with Peeters on the back. Lequatre and Giacoppo are also well placed..
The Allianz train powers into the lead as the sprint starts, with Havik doing a great job for his team.
Under the kite Havik still holds the lead, with Thorsen starting his sprint in his wheel. The rest of the sprinters have all kicked for home, with Uugunbayar, Lequatre and Giacoppo all well positioned..
Giacoppo holds a slim lead with 800m to go, as the sprinters fan out across the road.
As a small rise in the road starts, the Risa rider kicks again! Lequatre and Hochmann move into second and third, with some weaker riders starting to fade.
Giacoppo takes the stage, after he lead for the most of the last kilometre. He was certainly the strongest of the sprinters today.
Lequatre finishes in a solid second, with Hochmann rounding off the podium. Scully and Shaekhov both get top five's, with the latter pulling off another surprise.
That finishes the race, which confirms winners in all the competitions. After a quiet day in the peloton, Westra clinches the overall here in Australia. Cadbury duo Renshaw and Vink take the points and mountain classifications while Howson wins the white jersey. Gazelle win the teams competition in what was another successful race for them.
