FroomeDog99
i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/Geelogn1_zps737a8ea2.png

Welcome to Stage 1 of the 2013 Geelong Tour, which gives the sprinters an early opportunity to grab the leaders jersey due to the flat profile. Expect the best sprinters to contest the victory, names like i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bcr_zps86f2c872.png Guillen, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/abc_zps288913e0.png Thorsen and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/dbg_zps356cc31d.png Hochmann.

The first attack of the day is made by i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ekc_zps98eb3bbc.png Lindau, who looks intent on getting some camera time today.

i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/PCM0578_zps0fb62aae.jpg

He is quickly joined by i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ozc_zps749fc2f0.png Delgerbayar, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/dbg_zps356cc31d.png Petrovski and recent Tour de Korea victor i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/spr_zps39a3252c.png Huntegobler. They are not faced by any problems and are left to build a gap.

i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/PCM0586_zpsca9823e7.jpg

As they reach the first of three sprint points, the gap is held at 3'20" by the peloton, not wanting it to get any bigger due to the short length of the stage. It is won by i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ozc_zps749fc2f0.png Delgerbayar ahead of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ekc_zps98eb3bbc.png Lindau and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/spr_zps39a3252c.png Huntegobler.

i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/PCM0588_zps213f73f1.jpg

Gazelle start to up the pace behind as the race moves into the last 40 kilometers, in order to keep the race together ahead of the big GC battle tomorrow.

i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/PCM0593_zps07e96657.jpg

Their good work has brought the gap down to 1'50" as the second sprint point is reached. Once again i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ozc_zps749fc2f0.png Delgerbayar takes maximum points, with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ekc_zps98eb3bbc.png Lindau second and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/spr_zps39a3252c.png Huntegobler taking another third.

i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/PCM0595_zps518f5a26.jpg

The race quickly moves towards its climax as Gazelle remaining the driving force in the bunch, bringing the attackers' advantage down to under a minute as the last 20 kilometers are entered.

i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/PCM0611_zpsf7f989bf.jpg

The quartet still has enough of a gap to reach the last sprint of the day. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ozc_zps749fc2f0.png Delgerbayar completes his hattrick, with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/dbg_zps356cc31d.png Petrovski second this time ahead of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ekc_zps98eb3bbc.png Lindau.

i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/PCM0608_zps4f1e9c7e.jpg

They are soon swept up though as the sprinters' teams finally move to the front. Into the final 10 kilometers a massed sprint looks ensured.

i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/PCM0614_zps0afd8023.jpg

That remains the most likely outcome moving into the final 5000m. Sprint trains are starting to be formed, with Allianz on the left and JKCP on the right.

i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/PCM0619_zps6b3a73ef.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/abc_zps288913e0.png Thorsten and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.png Peeters are in pole position ahead of the final dash, with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Renshaw, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/dbg_zps356cc31d.png Abakoumov, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Abdallah and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/spr_zps39a3252c.png Awang also up in the first few positions.

i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/PCM0625_zps7f15eb61.jpg

As the sprint begins, a big push by i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.png Uugunbayar puts the Allianz train into difficulty.

i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/PCM0631_zps23df2a47.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/abc_zps288913e0.png Thorsen is forced to fend for himself as his leadout gives up, and tries to follow i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bcr_zps86f2c872.png Cano who has distanced his leader i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bcr_zps86f2c872.png Guillen. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.png Peeters remains the best positioned as his leadout continues.

i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/PCM0632_zps419cd55c.jpg

Into the final kilometer the Dutchman still doesn't start his sprint as others do around him, with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Renshaw, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/dbg_zps356cc31d.png Abakoumov and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Abdallah coming through.

i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/PCM0634_zps61adce88.jpg

Around the final bend, the main sprinters are four abreast! i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.png Peeters still hasn't gone which could cost him as others fly past him.

i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/PCM0643_zpsf012b4ae.jpg

With 300m to go i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Renshaw has moved into a slim lead, and is so close to taking a surprise home victory. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.png Peeters is coming though!

i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/PCM0645_zpsd9c4a59e.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Renshaw holds on! The Australian takes a great home victory, after beating all of the top sprinters by timing his sprint perfectly.

i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/PCM0653_zpsb0f53990.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.png Peeters deserves his 2nd after such a great leadout, with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bcr_zps86f2c872.png Guillen finishing third after also finishing strongly. Abakoumov and Thorsen round out the top five.

So after that great sprint i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Renshaw takes the race lead going into tomorrow's hilly stage. He is unlikely to be able to hold on but can celebrate his yellow jersey for now.
