Many good sprinters have made the journey to Mongolia for the Ulaanbaatar GP. Napolitano, Kennaugh, Vantomme, Roelandts and Cavendish top the bill.
A break of 4 went away: Vassdal, Mojica, Brandle and La Lavandier.
There's quite a tight final corner in the course, which could cause problems in the sprint. It's already causing an issue midway through the stage, as Salleh crashes.
AirBaltic-Endura, Evian-MIAT and Rothaus Aegon control the peloton for much of the race - an indication of which sprinters will be creating relay trains?
At 40km to go, the break's lead is just 2'40. There is one small rise on the route, just after the finish line, and Quinziato uses it to attack!
Cherel, Seo and Lagutin follow, but the 4 arent able to use the short uphill section to make an attack stick.
Kwok therefore tries on the descent.
And the Hong Kong rider actually gets a decent gap!
This sees a change in leadership of the peloton: Volkswagen, Vespa, Oz and Vueling take over.
Kwok is caught, so Quinziato attacks again. The Italian makes it to the breakaway, but they are caught at the top of the climb, at the start of the final lap.
Predictably then, we will have a sprint. Brought to you courtesy of Evian and Rothaus.
Evian have an advantage so Cucinotta launches fairly early.
They line up as:
Sonnery Manarelli Van Heerden Napolitano Cucinotta Castaneda Vantomme Cavendish Vaitkus Kennaugh Roelandts Guarnieri Teunissen Veelers
But it turns out those UPC riders weren't following the train, and instead Drujon joins it late.
Manarelli is able to open the sprint from first position.
Chaos behind as Cucinotta stops sprinting and drifts over towards the back of the Evian train, and Vaitkus gets in the way - blocking Kennaugh, Roelandts and Guarnieri.
Sensing this, Napolitano strikes for home.
Vantomme has managed to grab on to the wheel of Castaneda, with Cavendish following but a gap to the rest.
Vantomme makes his move around the Colombian - the Volkswagen rider punching a little above his weight here.
But Napolitano has a good gap, and is able to sweep around the tight final turn in a good line.
Out of the turn we see Cavendish move past Vantomme, with Roelandts and Kennaugh both now looking fast.
All to late for victory though, with the leadout setting Danilo Napolitano up for the win. Great result for Evian, the Mongolian registered team!
Cavendish holds on for 2nd, just ahead of fellow Manxman Kennaugh.
4th for Roelandts, while Vantomme fades to 5th. Vaitkus, Guarnieri, Castaneda, Drujon and Dall'Antonia complete the Top 10.
