Tour de Korea - Stage 7
SportingNonsense
The 2nd and final hill stage of the race - although the run in to the finish is easier than it was on the previous stage. The winner of this race has long been known, but there is still all to play for behind.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor7-1.jpg

And with this being rated a hill stage rather than flat, we have an actual breakaway! i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/aip_zps544721ca.png Silvestre, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.png Makino and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bcr_zps86f2c872.png Kopp

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor7-2.jpg

Nothing happened on the first climb, with Kopp taking 1st

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor7-3.jpg

But on the second climb, we did see sprinters getting dropped by the peloton

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor7-4.jpg

Makino edged out Silvestre at the top of the climb

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor7-5.jpg

There were points down to 5th, and while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Gate did attack, he missed out. Local rider i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.png Choi took 4th, with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/aip_zps544721ca.png Cardoso in 5th. But it does not matter - this was the final climb of the race, and Gate comfortably wins the competition.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor7-6.jpg

The break's lead was 2'50 with 25km to go, so still chaseable. But it wasn't chased, and the gap remained the same into the final 10km.

One of the break will win the stage.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor7-7.jpg

But as the peloton enter the last 10km, there has finally been an attack from some of the GC riders. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/arm_zps60f3d6b6.png Yeung, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Frend and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/gzl_zps14c119b5.png Lalouette.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor7-8.jpg

Up front, Kopp launches a powerful attack to try to win the stage solo

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor7-9.jpg

He is caught and forced to lead out by Silvestre and Makino - although he is somewhat reluctant to do so.

But here goes i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.png Makino from behind.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor7-10.jpg

He catches out both Kopp and Silvestre, opening a gap.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor7-11.jpg

The peloton have started a chaotic sprint for 4th place - with the group of 3 late attackers still clear, but hardly.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor7-12.jpg

Up front i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/aip_zps544721ca.png Silvestre started to close the gap, but could not do enough. With a textbook move in sprinting tactics, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.png Kosuke Makino wins the stage!

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor7-13.jpg

It is a very packed sprint in the peloton for 4th. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/emt_zps170ae4bd.png Koretzky takes it from i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/gzl_zps14c119b5.png Lalouette and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/fcb_zpse1da305d.png Florencio.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor7-14.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/gzl_zps14c119b5.png Nardin is 9th, which grows his Points competition lead - but it will be under attack on the flat final stage.

The break were not in GC contention, so there are no notable gaps on this penultimate stage. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/spr_zps39a3252c.png Hugentobler is one step away from overall victory, with Nardin a clear 2nd, and Koretzky holding on to 3rd. Florencio, Masuda and Cioban follow them, but 7th-23rd are separated by no time at all - plenty to play for on the final stage then, even though it is flat!
