The Baltic eHealth Cycling Series kicks off in Tallinn, Estonia! A flat crit through the beautiful city by the sea is one of the highlights of this Crits Series.
The sprinters will try their best to score valuable points, so we need to keep an eye on favorites like Mezgec, Polivoda, late entry Jorgensen or Ciocan.
After a few laps we seem to have our break of the day being built:
Halfway through the race, the gap looks still in control: the peloton, led by PrivatBank and Adria Mobil, is 1'30" in arrears and sets a higher pace now..
12km to go and two more riders attack and try to bridge the now only 35"-gap to the early escapees:
Grygorenko (Metinvest)
Kunitski (Belarusbank)
So Belarusbank tries to build a duo in the leading group and Kunitski - one of the favorites for the hilly crits - could become a real threat here!
But it ain't that easy for the duo to catch up! 8km remaining and 3 riders attack out of the breakaway group, just as the bunch looked to close the gap:
Kulppi, Sikskevicius and Galta try to hold of the chasing group with Kunitski, Karnulin, Grygorenko and Potocki!
And another rider attacked:
Mihaylov (Boeing) quickly overtook group Kunitski and is only 13" behind the leading three!
Mihaylov looks super-strong! The Bulgarian timetrial-specialist easily dropped the leading trio and goes solo with 4.5km remaining!
The new chasing group of 7 riders (group Kunitski caught up to group Kulppi) is 17" behind and - big news - the bunch seemed to give up today's race: 1'59" disadvantage, we will see this escapees battling for the win!
Flamme rouge and Mihaylov holds on to his lead! 24" on the chasing group, where the sprint to the line kicks off..
But Mihaylov takes it! A great and quite surprising win for him and his team, which was rated as an underdog here! Congrats on this perfect move late in the race!
Galta and Siskevicius sprint for valuable points as they complete the podium. So two of the early escapees managed to finish high in the rankings today.
Kunitski will be pleased with a good 4th, same goes for the other escapees Potocki, Kulppi, Karnulin and Grygorenko, who might have hoped for more than his 8th though.
Polivoda and Vasyluk sprinted for minor points in the bunch, which crossed the line 1'54" behind Mihaylov!
