Tour de Korea - Stage 1
SportingNonsense
The first stage of the Tour de Korea suits the sprinters, and there are many here with the aim of starting this race with a victory.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor1-1.jpg

Top 3 favourites are i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bcr_zps86f2c872.png Guillen, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.png Peeters and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/aip_zps544721ca.png Van Loocke.

And the riders began without a care in the world. There is an early King of the Mountains, but nobody tried for it. Great news for Ekspla who luck in with a 1-2 and the jersey for i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ekc_zps98eb3bbc.png Johan Broberg.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor1-2.jpg

After that a break of 2 went away: i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/arm_zps60f3d6b6.png Bikienga and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/spr_zps39a3252c.png Mundle.

The Armavia rider wrapped up both intermediate sprints on course - while Costa Rican Guillen took 3rd both times, to give himself a 4 point/second headstart on his rivals.

The peloton needed a lot of persuasion to wake up today, and the break still leads by 2 and a half minutes with 9km to go!

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor1-3.jpg

But the emergence of the sprint trains brings a faster pace, and the gap melts away.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor1-4.jpg

The sprint trains are looking like this:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bcr_zps86f2c872.pngKoppi439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.pngBaumanni439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/aip_zps544721ca.pngSilvestre

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/gzl_zps14c119b5.pngNardin

The break are caught, and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bcr_zps86f2c872.png Morales is quick to open up the sprint.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor1-5.jpg

And teammate i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bcr_zps86f2c872.png Guillen is also the first lead sprinter to make a move, although i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/fcb_zpse1da305d.png Lequatre has gone early to try to get a surprise jump on him - meanwhile i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ekc_zps98eb3bbc.png Friedman lost touch with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.png Peeters' wheel, bad news for all those who had the American's wheel. The gap between them only looks closer now as Friedman has been sprinting to close it!

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor1-6.jpg

And Peeters goes chasing after Guillen, with the road to the finish featuring a small rise inside the final few hundred metres

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor1-7.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.png Peeters moves alongside, could this be a perfect start to the home team?

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor1-8.jpg

Yes it is, Kevin Peeters wins Stage 1!

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/kor1-9.jpg

The Japanese-Korean Cycling Project are the reason this race is in the calendar, and they have made the most of it already!

2nd for Guillen, while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/reg_zpsf2e631b7.png Jorgensen is best of the rest in 3rd. Despite a leadout train, Van Loocke disappointed.
