Im currently looking into getting a football game for the PC and am wondering which is the best option, PES or FIFA?
Im not overly bothered about most up-to-date although current season is preferred.
Id quite like a game where I can play in the lower English divisions and not just the Premiership.
National teams would be nice.
I want an actual button-bashing game, not something like Football Manager which I presume is mostly tactics and not button-bashing.
Any tips?

I'd say, for the PC Choose FIFA, at the consoles, PES is better, but FIFA is better on the PC(in my opinion)
And I think there's more tactic in FIFA

Haha, let the war begin.
PES is the best if you look at gameplay and realism. FIFA is the best if .. no, wait, FIFA is never the best. |

Anything from EA cant be the best. With the exception that FIFA 2008 is a great game if you like games from 2006

I'm normally a FIFA guy, but go for PES - it is just far superior now |

To needlessly go back into my childhood: FIFA98 - Road To World Cup was actually the best FIFA ever.

Okay, I know that FIFA has got lots of leagues, licenses and teams, including Leaugue 1 and League 2 from England which are two leagues that I particularly want since it contains 2 of my favourite teams (One in each).
For PES, Im fairly certain licenses isnt a problem when there are databases made by people, BUT - what does it have in terms of leagues?

And Madden 2008, but that isn't football (European, that is), so just consider this a random impulse and then back on topic.

aaah...scoring them at will with Amavisca. that brings back memories
and childhood is right...amazing how I was so young, yet could already play decently
anyway, ISS (now called PES) was already better at the time

Could someone just answer my question, does PES have the same depth in amount of leagues as Fifa (Does it have all the English leagues and not just the premiership).

Then it seems for my purposes that FIFA is the better option.
Any idea if FIFA07 is a better buy than FIFA08, money is not an issue, its just that FIFA08 has some poor reviews on Amazon.

PES08 is crap in terms of leagues
I'd go for FIFA08 but i can't really remember too much difference between the 08 and 07 version

Little change from previous versions wont really affect me, the only other football game ive got is World Cup 2006 on the PS2.

I can't say for certain, as i am an american and have to wait till like february to get PES, but they have in the past made Option files with lower leagues in england. The question is do you want to play in those leagues and get promoted and such. Because you can play with lower league teams but their won't be any promotion, outside of master league play which i wouldn't consider to be the same as what fifa can do. I am a PES man, and if gameplay is what your after that is the way to go. Those are just my two cents.

Unfortunately, I will remain stubborn on the leagues, despite PES being better than FIFA in gameplay.

FIFA 08 and 07 are basically the same if I remember correctly with a little bit of difference in the looks of things. Although I'm not sure if it was between 07 and 08 or 06 and 07 but there was a change in gameplay which was irritating at first but soon made sense.
I'll always play FIFA because I can't stand playing games with false names and such. |

PES hans't got all Licenses, and only got 8 or 10 leagues(exc. national teams) and FIFA has even got Mexico and stuff xD
For gameplay I prefer PES, but for the licenses/management I'd say FIFA

For me it would be Pro Evo every time, even older versions play better than the newer FIFA games...however since gameplays not what your looking for, then go ahead and get FIFA with its flashy presentation, proper leagues and souless gameplay |
