Hi there,
I need help with my team selection.
I'm into my 5th year and done it all, yet the Vuelta still eludes me. (in every sense INC: Points, KOM + Young rider)
I've tried to win with many a rider yet nothing seems to go my way.
Don't get me wrong I mean, I've won the Giro ridiculously 4 times, the Tour twice(pure fluke on both occasions having been down by 3 mins at stage 16/17)
Yet the vuelta!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
.........Nothing doing.
So, I ask for a few seconds of your time to help me with my team selection for the Vuelta.
Here is my team List:
Basso
Nibali (Tour x1)
Gilbert
Rui Costa
Kreuziger
Mollema (Giro x1 (clean sweep - G.C, Points, KOM, Young + Team))
A.Schleck (Three times Giro winner + TDF once)
Kwiatkowski
D. Martin
Bakelants
Contador
Froome
Cavendish
Sagan
Kittel
Boason Hagen
G.Thomas
I.Stannard
P.Kennaugh
Pierre Rolland
P. Veilts
Lars Boom
Paul Voss
Cameron Muyer
S. De Lis de Andres
Angel Madrazo Ruiz
Davide Malacane
Andrey Amador
Thanks a bunch
P.S I took 2 years off their age so they'd last longer

Well, maybe you should take a screenshot of your team and mention how the Vuelta route is in your game
We don't have enough information

I was going to write that your team doesn't have Valverde and Rodriguez, therefore your team isn't strong enough to win the Vuelta. But I'll give a serious answer
First of all, your team is so hugely powerful, you should have no problem with the line-up at all. Unless you have been trying to win the Vuelta with a sprinter (and I don't think you would make such a stupid mistake, since you did win Tour+Giro), there is literally an abundance of quality riders to pick.
So provided that you have selected the right type of riders, and know how to ride a GT, I think the only obvious reason for your lack of success is season planning. The fact that you can't seem to win the Vuelta with such a strong line-up indicates that your riders have peaked too much earlier in the season, which means that they are now on bad form and unable to compete.
Make sure your Vuelta leader peaks in the last week, and preferably make it his primary (or only) season goal.
Oh, and sign Greipel too. |

I think Shorts is on to something
Maybe it's different in pcm13, but on pcm12 you can win the Vuelta with a decent rider provided he has great fitness. Last season I won a time trial-heavy variant of the Vuelta with Aru on hard difficulty (he's got MO 80, Hill 78, TT 68) and I was up against Contador, Schleck and a few other strong riders. |

It is harder to win a Vuelta in PCM 13 than PCM 12, for sure.
Also, the Vuelta got a lot of hilly stages most of the time, so you might want to have a leader who is quite good at hills as well(though mountain ofc more important)
But as said, a great fitness is key

Judging by your team you have no problems with team strength, you could fill a whole Vuelta lineup with potential winnners
Since the vuelta is the last GT it is more form and fitness than actual ability. I'm no expert on PCM13 (or any PCM really ) but if you ask me I'd say that you should start prep for the vuelta late. I often don't race at all until the giros finished, not ideal irl, but I haven't discovered any in game issues with this.
Don't race big races as build up necessarily, just whatever setup gets you in best shape, (eg in pcm12 I always did Burgos-Utah-SanSeb rather than Benelux.)
With your squad you don't need to do any GT doubles so I would recommend 1 tour per leader, so they are all in peak shape.
In my careers the vuelta team ends up packed with classic riders, (but more out of necessity than any master stroke, so you have the depth you just need to use it effectively when planning and racing your season
Sorry if this is no help ( unfortunately I rarely am), but I hope something here is useful at least
