Our final road stage is the biggest of them all. Three massive climbs, can Arroyo manage to turn around his defict to Marzano? Will any of the riders 3 minutes back go off on a flyer, causing havoc? The favourites are the big 3: Arroyo (KBG), Marzano (KEN) and Menchov (FCB)
Two riders jump clear early: Taubel (ABC) and Rovira (FCB). Neither are any threat at all.
Taubel takes the sprint. In teh peloton, Duque (DBG) takes third
Rovira wins the first, 4th category, climb as expected. Mori (KEN) rolls over 5 minutes down in third.
Taubel takes the final sprint, just before we start to climb properly. Duque again takes third.
We haven't been climbing long when Ndibri (KAB) and Niyonshuti (MTN) decide to attack.
Ronimois tries to follow them, but he waits too long, and they have a two minute advantage over him.
Ndibri and Niyontushi quickly catch the leaders. Their advantage over the bunch is 5'33", btu Kappa have started to up the pace.
Iberia and DBG also lend a rider to the chase.
Ndibri leads over the top of the climb, Niyontushi is following, with Rovira doing well to stay with them.
Taubel is 30 seconds back
Ronimois is at 2'25"
Iberia have taken up the chase in the second half of the climb, and they the 42 man bunch over the top at 5'22"
Taubel catches the leaders on the descent.
As the four men start to climb again, their gap has been reduced to 4 minutes. Still 53km to go for them.
This climb is the same as the final one, and with 5km to the line, but 7km to the top of the climb Rovira is getting dropped.
Iberia catch Taubel with 5.4km to climb. They have cut Ndibri's lead to just 3'11"
The leaders cross the line for the first time, 38km to go, 3'10" the advantage.
It's Niyonshuti over the top first this time. He and Ndibri are still working well together.
Ronimois is now in third 2'08" behind
Then Rovira at 2'36"
Not on his heels are the peloton, at 2'50" meaning Marzano is back in provisional yellow.
Rovira and Ronimois are both pulled back on the descent.
The leaders descend much better this time, and still have 2'43" of a lead when they hit the final few km of flat before the climb.
The peloton is strung out as they try to make up as much ground as possible on the flat.
But the bunch still hits the 15km long closing climb with a 2'29" deficit.
Marzano weighs up his options, then decides to attack.
Martinez (KAB) and Silva (MCC) are straight after him.
Arroyo (KBG) can't afford to let this go, Moreno (ICV) and Mora (MCC) follow as well.
Parra Busamante also joins the fun. When they regroup Marzano has a 20 second lead on the other 6.
Mora can't stay with them, and drops back to the waiting peloton.
Arroyo is on a mission today, Moreno and Parra Bussamante are the only two who can follow as he chases Marzano.
Then Parra Bussamante also lets go.
The gap between Arroyo and Marzano just won't shrink, though Ndibri and Niyontushi are getting closer all the time.
As Marzano makes the catch Ndibri vainly attacks.
Ndibri gets a small gap, forcing Marzano to chase.
As Marzano pulls up to Ndibri's rear wheel Arroyo is still 30 seconds behind.
Marzano then decides to wait before taking up the pace, allowing Arroyo back up to him. Ndibri attacks again.
Arroyo immediately tries to follow Ndibri, as does Moreno.
Marzano is shellshocked as Ndibri and Arroyo drive clear of him.
Again it's Arroyo against Marzano, but this time it's Marzano chasing.
Ndibri can't hold Arroyo's wheel, but is the rabbit that allows Marzano back up to Arroyo.
Moreno has done nothing but follow wheels all climb, now attacks.
Arroyo follows, while Marzano is left standing
Arroyo and Moreno quickly build a 30 second lead.
Marzano hasn't given up, and his pace is enough to drop Ndibri and Niyontushi.
Arroyo doesn't want to tow Moreno to the line, but Moreno is refusing to work, allowing Marzano to come back to them.
Arroyo thus tries to attack again.
He can't get clear, and Marzano is almost upon them.
Under the kite all three are together.
Marzano comes round Moreno
Pulls clear of Arroyo.
And takes the stage, securing the overall win.
Arroyo takes second, with Moreno third.
1 minute behind, Ndibri drops Niyontushi to take 4th.
Parra Bustamante rode the whole climb solo, coming in at 1'52"
Then comes Menchov, who sat in the peloton until the final couple of kilometres, at 2'24"
Just ahead of Perez sanchez, who lead in the peloton.
So, Marzano didn't look unbeatable today, but he was better than Arroyo, and that was enough to give him the stage and, surely, the overall tomorrow.
