Usually I've got assignments/projects to deliver so I'm busy and every hour or so I tend to check the site to see what's new...
but that will all end soon.
why? (who cares, you're all thinking, but indulge me on this  )
well, since I skipped a few grades when I was younger, I've always been a bit ahead of my age...especially entering college as a 16 year old was spooky.
And because of that, just a few short years later I'm looking at getting an internship (which is the final part of my degree) at a very young age. and because of that it was doubly spooky. all the job interviews where they look at me and they're clearly thinking "who's the kid??".
Well, it's even worse when you're being interviewed by anyone from small time companies to extremely big ones.
But it's an amazing feeling when a dream comes true. Today I was offered an internship at one of the largest software companies in the world. And it hasn't quite set in. I just know I'm happier than I've been in a loooooong time.
So starting monday, I might not be here much, as the workload mounts...but it's all for a good cause.
I won't completely vanish. nothing at all. but I would like to thank you guys for what I've enjoyed of our discussions in the forum so far, which will no doubt be less frequent.

If its Microsoft, attempt to sabotage something by hitting all coffee machines and salesmen you encounter with a spanner while yelling "thats all you are! a tool!".

If it's there, do you know that Microsoft Portugal has been chosen as one of the five companies where computering engineers would love to work?
I hope to work there too in a few years...

that would be brilliant, but no, it's not Microsoft.
they were offering internships as well, but I didn't apply, since at Microsoft you always work in the same place (which in this case would be one of Microsoft europe's 3 headquarters, either Copenhagen, Rome or Lisbon), and I'm looking for a job where I can work around the world. and this job allows that. Tokyo, Stockholm, Cape Town, Mexico City, you name it

google is definitely number one
and if you want to work for Microsoft, it's simple: sign up at FEUP. the reason I went there is because it's miles ahead of any other college in the country. it's one of the most reputed engineering colleges in europe and for good reason.
that and the fact that either you're unbelievably good or Microsoft will only offer you something if you're from FEUP.
I didn't apply because of what I wrote above to Waghlon, but a few of my friends did and 3 were accepted

UM is decent too, but the level isn't as high as FEUP, and they can't guarantee you an internship, while at FEUP, not only are there about 1500 computers with all kinds of tools installed that you can use to work at any time, you also get a bunch of stuff free just because you're a student (for example I'm downloading the Vista Business Edition DVD right now), plus they not only guarantee you an internship, there's a 99% chance it's a paid one (and money is always good, right? )

and, what I think is the most important part: you get real practical experience. a lot of the projects you do are real projects for real companies! (I just finished one for CMP (Porto City Hall)

finally if you manage to get an internship at UM, it'll have to be (university policy) in the district of Braga. And chances are your first job will be at the same place as the internship if they want to keep you.
anyway, don't get me wrong. UM is a fine college for engineering (not so much computer engineering, but still a decent one), and better than almost all others in the country.
it's just that at feup...well...
let's put it this way: when I was applying for college I sent some e-mails around.
Siemens, QImonda, Alert, etc. basically, a bunch of big companies asking what college they would most value on a resume, anywhere in Europe. those that answered me said considering where I'm from, I'm lucky to have one of the best close to home and that it would be a great choice, so I made up my mind
not to mention they take in 90 students a year for this course, so the entrance requirements aren't THAT high (although for an engineering course they are pretty high)

You're right, and to not talk that FEUP gives advanced knowledgment, because it's five years instead of three (checked right now). I have two years to choose between the two, but you opened my eyes with that one...

The entrance requirements shouldn't be a problem for me at all, I am the second best of my class (almost 17 of average), and working always for more, and in a school who has some of the best results in this country at Portuguese, Mathss and so on, but I know in the future it is not going to be easier...
At least, I want to be and I WILL (God, don't send a big rig to run over me) be an engineer, something that our actual Prime Minister is not...

When the system goes down, thousands of tons of things that we buy remain stopped for hours.
