Who will live up to their pre-race hype? Who will emerge as Carlsberg's leader, Menchov or Vinokourov? Who will lead Discovery, Mayo, Sanchez Gonzalez or Gomez Marchante?
Brandt took the first KoM points ahead of Zubeldia but no break went away. This meant the sprinters, having rejoined the peleton, could battle out the intermediate sprint. Napolitano won ahead of Bennati and Davis - so Bennati is the new points classification leader.
The 2nd KoM is won by Mayo, ahead of Sanchez Gil and Sevilla. Sevilla keeps on going though, and builds up a gap.
He wins the next intermediate sprint, while Bennati takes 2nd again - extending his new lead.
Onto the longest climb of the day, and Vinokourov attacks!
All the other big guns attack too but just form one big group. Vino is quickly over a minute up on them.
A notable exception from the group is Gomez Marchante and also Perez Cuapio.
Sevilla takes maximum KoM points and leads onto the final climb.
He has 45 seconds on Vinokourov and 4'08 on the next group.
Vinokourov quickly catches Sevilla, while Thomas Dekker is about to lead the next wave of attacks in the group.
The damage is done, Zubeldia and Menchov are dropped. Sevilla has breen passed too and is alongside Zubeldia now.
Rujano is dropped!
And further up, the front group starts to split.
Kloden, Gutierrez Catalana, Mancebo and Sanchez Gonzalez start to move away from Fothen, Dekker, Gesink and Mayo. Vila is the other Saturn.
But none of them come even close to Vinokourov, who takes a superb solo win - is he on his way to Grand Tour triumph already?
Gutierrez Catalana takes valuable PT points for Saturn in 2nd, with Mancebo 3rd.
