How to load a multiplayer game ?

Hi,
With some friends, we'd like to do a Tour de France, it's starting well, we have done some stages.
But when I load the saved game, it doesn't work for them, they can't do anything, juste chatting is working.

We tried many things but it never worked.

Do I have to return to the menu at an exact moment when I want to save the game ?
Do they have to join my saved game at an exact moment ?

What is your method to load a multiplayer game ?
Does it worked for someone ??!!
