Welcome to stage 2, where three first category climb greet us, each bigger than the last. We the finsh on a small uphill drag, ensuring only the strongest will win today. The key question is whether the favourites will go for it, or wait for bigger challenges to come. The favourites today are Arroyo (DBG), Marzano (KEN) and Moreno (ICV)
Coyot (ABC) isn't particularly well suited to todays terrain, but he is the only rider interested in attacking.
Over the top he has built a 2 minute lead over Moren (VTF) and Simon (FCB) who are controlling the peloton.
For some bizarre reason Vatenfall decide the solo cobbler is too much of a threat, so pull the gap down to 30 seconds through the sprint point.
Maybe it was in an attempt for more bonus seconds, as Gingsjo takes 3rd behind Dall'Antonia (MCC) to extend his lead.
Coyot is allowed more leeway uphill again, extending his lead to three minutes by the top.
Air Kenya have joined in with the sedate pace setting, and Njoroge takes second in front of Simon (FCB)
THe peloton again psuh the descent and by the time Duque (DBG) pips Dall'Antonia to the second sprint the gap is down to just 1'15". We now have 27km of climbing and then 30km of descent to the line.
Vatenfall take the front up the early part of the climb, maintaining the days slow rhythm.
For almost the entirety of the climb Coyot's lead is help at 2 minutes by Vatenfall, however with 7km to go Ihlenfeldt (MTN) lights the spark plug, Mora (MCC) tries to follow.
2km is all it takes for them to jump across the gap to Coyot. The peloton is not responding in any way.
The gradient is only around 5% so Coyot manages to stay with them as they begin to extend their advantage.
The gap hits 2'40" with less than 2km to the top when Kappa and Barca decide they have had enough, and take the pace up about ten nothes.
Coyot has managed to save enough energy to attack for the final climbing points. Mora and Ihlenfeldt are too focussed on their potential yellow jersey to worry about that.
The peloton come over the top 2'33" down. The stage will probably go to the break again, but a concerted effort will be needed to stop the yellow jersey disappearing.
Ihlenfeldt is an excellent descender, and leading the way, but the peloton are pushing hard, with the gap down to 1'49" with 20km to go.
Despite Ihlenfeldt's descending abilities the peloton have the gap down to 1 minute with 10km to go. Ihlenfeldt just can't be pushing at all hard, and has given up his shot at yellow.
Just as I say that, he puts in a massive downhill attack.
With 5km to go he has a 30 second advantage on Coyot and Mora.
With the peloton a further 45 seconds behind.
The road jumps up to the line. Can Ihlenfeldt hold on?
Mora starts to sprint with 1km to go.
Coyot is immediately distanced, but Mora isn't closing in on Ihlenfeldt.
Ihlenfeldt takes a surprise stage win, after timing both his attacks excellently. He now needs about a minute on the bunch to take yellow.
Mora comes in 40 seconds down.
Then Coyot in third at 1'10". He can console himself with the mountains jersey, and the fact that this is his best ever climbing performance.
De Weert (DBG) and Maisto (KEN) lead the peloton in just behind Coyot.
Chacon (ICV) falls off the back of the bunch at the line, and so will drop out of the top ten.
So Ihlenfeldt takes the overall lead by 22" on Gingsjo, 36" on his team mate Lemus Davila, 52" ahead of Mora and 1'40" ahead of all the favourites. Gingsjo keeps the points jersey, and MTN take a 1'20" lead in the team competition.
