Blel Kadri | And then there was...
Marcovdw
Spoiler
First of all, welcome to my return with a story. My previous story (Le Tour des Deux Cyclistes) was a nice warm-up and try-out for me, so now it's time for the serious buisness. Well, serious. I came up with an idea of 22 stories, each story another team and another rider. But they were all the same, their experiences in Le Tour (2012 version with 2013 startlist). I doubt I can do all 22 versions, but I will try to do atleast one Wink

Hello, readers. Welcome to my blog! I'm Blel Kadri and I'm going to telll you all my experiences, stories etc. from Le Tour de France 2013. Before I'm going to tell you what this is, let's introduce myself and my team.

Me:

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Me_zps4c895167.jpg

I'm Blel Kadri. I was born on the third of September 1986 in Bordeaux, France. In 2009, I made my professional cycling debut at AG2R, the same team I am now. My first victory came in 2010, when I won the second stage of the Route du Sud. My biggest victory to date is the Roma Maxima, which I won in 2013.

The team:

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Team_zps812a3c8b.jpg

So, this is the team of AG2R in Le Tour 2013. Jean-Christophe Peraud is our leader. He hopes to get a top-10, but he will be happy with a top-15. Samuel Dumoulin is our sprinter, but we doubt he can win mass sprints. Christophe Riblon and John Gadret are 2 great climbers. They can go into the break, and the can help Peraud. Romain Bardet is a young rider with a great future! Maxime Bouet, Hubert Dupont and Sebastien Minard are good bottle carriers and people for in the break. These are my team-mates, and we are here to rock!

2013:

So, what are our goals of this year's Tour?
Top-15 GC
Polka dot jersey
Be in the break
The second and third goal are really important for our sponsors, and also for me. We don't know yet who goes for the Polka dots, but it depends on who has the best form. I hope that's me!

Blog:

So, what is this? In this blog, I'll post the highlights of every stage, and my story of that stage. I will also include the results, so you don't need to look at other sites etc. I hope I'll get many followers, and I hope they enjoy my story!

Blel: No mountain sprints, so I can take it easy and just finish in time.

RACE

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Prologue/PCM0001_zps0bb936ba.jpg

This is it! This is the start of my Tour de France! 48 riders have already started, with Thomas being the current leader. My team-mate Riblon rode a good time-trial, he's 13th now.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Prologue/PCM0002_zps949e20e6.jpg

I had nothing to win and nothing to lose here. I relaxed today and enjoyed the city and the crowd. Man, Belgium is amazing!

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Prologue/PCM0003_zps62f8ded6.jpg

It was over before I realised it, but I maybe took it a bit to easy. I'm provisional 25th, 21 seconds behind Thomas! I know I can do better than that, but I must safe some energy for the rest of the tour.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Prologue/PCM0004_zps73b97f30.jpg

When our leader Peraud started, I had already dropped to 95th place, and Chavanel was the new leader. To make things worse for Jean-Christophe, he started too quick, and even finished behind me. That's not a good start for the GC-ambitions.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Prologue/PCM0005_zps6c90f293.jpg

But the big favourite had yet to start. World Champion Tony Martin showed that he is worth that title, because he was 2 seconds faster as his team-mate, which was enough to give him the victory and the yellow jersey. I will eventually finish 112th, which is not bad!

BLEL'S COMMENT

I took it easy and finished 112th, so what? I'm happy with that! The only disappointment of today is Jean-Christophe's time-trial. He told me he started too fast, and was completely empty with 1 kilometer to go. Bad luck, but shit happens. He can still get a top-15 in the GC.

Another story out of Veenendaal, so it must be great! Too bad Riblon is a weaker climber looking at the stats than irl at the moment.

A few mountain sprints today, so the team will definately put someone in the break. It depends on who has the best form, and I hope that's me!

RACE

198km to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Stage%201/PCM0001_zps1c2b115b.jpg

There is only thing Belgians aren't good at, Grand Departs. It was just a silly man with a flag who yelled depart! But, it's all about the racing.

155km to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Stage%201/PCM0002_zps2a6bfc27.jpg

An AG2R rider wins the first mountain sprint, but it's not me. I was positioned too far to the back when the attacks came. This is my team-mate Maxime Bouet, and I believe he can grab the mountain jersey!

147km to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Stage%201/PCM0003_zpsae135c78.jpg

And that's 2. But as you can see the other riders in the break are making it tough for him. Most dangerous rider in the break is Malori, who is just 11 seconds behind Tony Martin and leader in the youth classification.

137km to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Stage%201/PCM0004_zps55bd913a.jpg

It was raining, the road is wet and crashes are unavoidable. I hit the ground once today, but nothing serious. Just a few bruises, that's it. I could easily return to the peleton! But I was not the only one today. Important people like Thomas, Rojas and Voigt also crashed, and not all of them returned to the peleton. Vorganov abandoned due to his crash.

103km to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Stage%201/PCM0005_zpsd0a19ee0.jpg

Shit happens. Terpstra beats Maxime at the next mountain sprint. The gap with the peleton is 8 minutes now.

58km to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Stage%201/PCM0006_zps2ed4fd23.jpg

And Narvadauskas beats him at the last mountain sprint. He is still the provisional leader, with only the final mountain sprint at the finish left. However, the winner there will get 1 point, so he could theoretically still lose it if Terpstra or Narvadauskas wins the stage.

11km to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Stage%201/PCM0007_zps81515569.jpg

The break, with Maxime, is still not caught. My inital goal failed (being in the break), but I was not uselss to the team! It was my task to bring Samuel Dumoulin to the front of the pack near the finish, and that's exactly what I did!

0m to go

And the break partly stayed out untill the end, but the winner was a late attacker. Lars Boom is today's winner, and he also takes over the GC. But more importantly for us, Bouet finishes 6th! And even better, he wears the mountain jersey tomorrow! Dumoulin finishes 26th, which is not bad! I took it easy after I brought him forward, so I finished behind the peleton, to save some energy for the following stages.

MY COMMENTS

First of all, congratulations to Maxime for wearing the mountain jersey and finishing sixth. Congratulations! You deserved it! You were better as me today! But I'm happy I could bring Samuel to the front, it's a nice job! I finished behind the peleton, but hey, I'm not going for the yellow jersey! And for the bruises, they hurt, but it doesn't keep me away from my bike!

--Blel

MANAGER'S COMMENTS

Let me explain why I chose to attack with Bouet instead of Blel.
.1 Bouet's form was +3, Kadri's -2
.2 Bouet was near the front of the peleton at the start, Kadri at the back
.3 Kadri doesn't necessarily has to wear the mountain jersey, a team-mate is good enough Wink
Anyway, after Kadri brought Dumoulin forward, he was empty. So I slowed him down (with the dot) and apparently dropped out of the peleton (because he also waisted energy by coming back to the peleton)

Firstly, I like the new avatar. Wink

Secondly, AG2R is a nice choice, good luck!

@NTTHRASH - Firstly, thanks. Secondly, thanks.
@sutty68 - Indeed, but better here as in a mountain stage with a lot of points

ROUTE

We have the mountain jersey, and we don't need to defend it. Although this profile shows a mountain sprint, it was cancelled in the race. So, we'll focus on Dumoulin today.

No mountain sprints today, so our manager told us to relax and don't crash or lose contact with the peleton, and that's exactly what we did! No rider from us in the 8-men break, shown here.

65km to go

I had no work today, mainly because of my crash yesterday. So I was just sitting in the peleton chatting with some riders. Here, you can see me chatting with Brett Lancaster from Orica-GreenEDGE.

The break was caught, so it was time for a sprint. Mark Cavendish was mighty and won the sprint ahead of Sagan and Degenkolb. Samuel Dumoulin did a nice job and finished just outside the top 10 in 11th place, 1 place ahead of Andre Greipel. That's a great performance! I (and all my team-mates) finished in the peleton.

MY COMMENTS

Well, Samuel did a good job today. Beating Greipel isn't a piece of cake. I think he had a bad day, and Samuel was in a great shape! So, we still have the mountain jersey, which is great! But points can be earned tomorrow, so we will need to defend it.

--Blel

MANAGER'S COMMENTS

Good job Samuel! But I'm sorry to tell you this Blel, but you'll have to work tomorrow. So, get a good sleep tonight and be in a great shape tomorrow!

Good result for Samuel Wink

STAGE 3

ROUTE

www.letour.fr/PHOTOS/TDF/2012/300/PROFIL.jpg

Mountain sprints here, so we need to defend the jersey. We want to get someone in the break to defend it. And if nobody manages to get into the break, we will chase them down.

RACE

190km to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Stage%203/PCM0001_zpsbea3ae33.jpg

My legs are good today, I'm near the front of the peleton, my team-mates agreed and my manager gave the green light. I am attacking!

150km to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Stage%203/PCM0002_zpsc2642e7f.jpg

And the peleton let me go! I was in the 11-men break!

66km to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Stage%203/PCM0003_zpsb37f4406.jpg

I was positioned too far to back at the first mountain sprint, but it was onyl 4th category, so nothing lost yet.

34km to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Stage%203/PCM0004_zps3ad0a3b7.jpg

It looks like the mountain sprints are cursed today. I might have waisted too much energy while attacking. And even worse, my team-mate Gadret crashed and is somewhere behind the peleton.

17km to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Stage%203/PCM0005_zpsb46c7cdb.jpg

No, again no points for me. Maxime is still provisional leader, though.

11km to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Stage%203/PCM0006_zps4b879a95.jpg

I think I'm going to cry now Sad. De Marchi is equal to Bouet now, with 2 mountain sprints to go.

7000m to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Stage%203/PCM0007_zpsc3113fca.jpg

Lutsenko joins De Marchi and Bouet at the top. I'm completely empty now. But, there is 1 mountain sprint left, at the finish.

0m to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/Le%20Tour%20of/Blel%20Kadri/Stage%203/PCM0008_zps8b91d79f.jpg

And unfortunately, it's Lutsenko who wins it, because he could stay ahead of the peleton. We lost to dots. Our plan failed, I screwed up. It's my fault! I'm responsable!

So much went wrong for me today. I doubt I can sleep tonight, I'm trying to avoid every contact with my manager and my team-mates. I think they all want to kill me now. I just want to disappear now.

MANAGER'S COMMENTS

Blel screwed up, but nothing to worry about. Everybody does something wrong, and there are a lot of things worse as this. And, he must be very happy with his 19th place, that's a good performance. I hope he can get over it before the mountains, because we will need him there.

From cyclingnews.com

Blel Kadri did not report to the bus
When the AG2R bus arrived at their hotel yesterday, they found out that 1 rider was missing. After a quick qount they found out that Blel Kadri was missing. He did not report at the bus after today's stage, where he was part of the breakaway and finished 19th.

'I want to disappear'
Blel Kadri was writing a blog during this Tour, where he posted a report of today's stage. In his post-race comments, he said that 'I screwed up' and that 'I want to disappear'. The AG2R-staff and -riders don't know where he wrote this, because he normally does this in the hotel. His team-mate Minard tweeted the following: 'Blel is not here, and we don't know where he is. But when I'm reading his blog, I dooubt if I'll ever see him again.

Police investigation
The French police is currently investigating the disappearance. A spokeswoman told L'Equipe: 'We are currently investigating and we haven't found anything yet. We don't know where he is or if he is still alive'. Tour-director Preud'Homme gave an interview with the same news paper: 'It's a shame that a rider has disappeared, but the Tour must go on'
