All about the numbers?

For those wanting a further insight into performance analysis you might find these links as interesting as I (please don't feel compelled to read them if you aren't, there's a lot more to racing Grin).

Most strikingly there is a comparison between calculation estimates of performace versus real world SRM data as part of this Science of Sport article https://www.sportsscientists.com/2013/...sense.html

You can see the estimates are typically within 1-2% of actual recorded performance so not perfect but definitely a good and useful approximation imo.

Someone queried the big difference (Ian?) in estimates from different calculation methods that one Quintana performance from the Tour threw up but having had a brief look I think this is because DrF's method seems to underestimate performance considerably when rider weight is very low (as is the case for Quintana).

Also interesting efforts to move the modelling forward here https://veloclinic.tumblr.com/post/569...-proposed#

...and some interesting power curve comparisons as part of that too https://veloclinic.tumblr.com/post/557...omparisons including a Lemond versus Froome comparison!

Most of the four methods generally used get results that range between 1 and 5 % of SRM datas (both superior or inferior depending on climbs, riders, etc.). When you know that not all SRM are re-calibrated every day, and that even a calibrated one has a margin of error of 1 or 2 % (for pro models) or 3-5 % (for cheaper models), that's quite accurate, yes.
Not quite what one would call pseudo-science then. Pfft

Indeed Aquarius.

Also a look at the Tour 2013 in it's entirety here https://www.fillarifoorumi.fi/forum/sh...ost2066034

Averages for Froome for the 7 major climbs:

DrF: 5.90 W/kg (7 climbs)
CPL: 5.95 W/kg (7 climbs)
BCR: 6.03 W/kg (7 climbs)
rst: 6.01 W/kg (6 climbs)

VAM: 1635 m/h -(7 climbs)
