I have decided to start a diary of my adverntures with Team Australia (formely South Australia.com). I will be starting on hard (which i have never done before) to give me a challenge. I will be trying to keep the game realistic and hence only travel to non European events intially. I will also focus on Australian riders and then move onto Asian riders.
The Team:
As you can see mainly sprinters and so sprint events will be my focus. Hutchinson is the team leader for sprint events. Lloyd will be leader for hilly classics.
Goals:
Pretty much unachievable, but i will try my best.
Finances:
I need to earn at least $200k in prize money just to survive.
(There are no race expenses in this database so that should make it slightly easier).
Race Calendar for Jan:
Jayco Cycling Classic:
with all flat short stages, should get some decent results.
National Champs:
Just keep attacking and hopfully get someone in a breakaway
Tour Down Under:
If some Pro teams come down (likely) then i am going to be outclassed. I just hope i can get a few decent results. |

Jayco Cycle Classic Stage 1/5 (36 kms, flat)
At start of the sprint. We are in okay position. With no lead out man it is always going to be tough.
Mondory leads, Clarke followed him and should come 3rd. Hutchinson was out of position. Dawson and Finning have no chance.
Clarke finishes 3rd, Hutchinson 7th (he tired at the end). |

Jayco Cycle Classic Stage 2/5 36km flat
This stage has a slight hill on, and becuase my sprints have stat of 50 hill, they find it hard to keep up. Hopefully all will be ok.
start of the sprint.
Grillo takes it from Mondary, Hutchinson should be 4th.
Stage results:
Hutchinson 4th
Finning 9th
Overall:
Clarke 4th
Hutchinson 5th |

Jayco stage 3/5 64km. flat
Dawson tries to get in an early breakaway that comes to nothing.
Sprint starts. No major crashes yet in 3 stages, normally it is full of crashes.
We came 11th,12th,13th. Clarke is still 5th overall. |

Jayco stage 4/5 85km with small hills, right at the finish line.
I just hope we can hold on for a few decent results.
Mondory wins easily.
My riders all lose 1.48 plus as they could not handle the slight elevation change. Any hopes of a decent overall result are gone.
Jayco stage 5/5 21km flat
A big mass crash. Hutchinson goes down in it, so 22 others riders.
start of the sprint. Everyone is well placed.
A win for the break away. Finning was 4th but faded.
Dawson 6th, Finning 9th
Clarke was best overall at 28th. Not too bad, if it was not for stage 4 we would have done alot better. |

Australian Champs
Hilly circuit. I will try to break away and hope they do not chase me down.
The early break away, will it work.
The gap gets to 10 mins with under 60kms to go. We are looking good. Dawson gets dropped with 55 kms to go. 30kms to go and down to 4, Higgerson is still there.
Higgerson attacks on the last hill and gets a gap. Can you hold it?
Higgerson at the line
Other Results:
Dawson 7th
All in all a great championship. The $60,000 prize money helps as well.
Next up will be Tour Down Under. Hushovd, Zabel and McEwen will be there, so it will hard for me to achieve any good results. |

Tour Down Under 1/6 44km flat
Bad crash. 2 of my riders are down. Hushovd is down. Can we benefit from this?
Another 13 riders fall. All the sprinters appear to be stuck in the mess. McEwen, Davis, Zabel survivie. Clarke has to withdraw.
Not we get beaten easily. Davis beats McEwen
Not a good way to start the tour.
Lloyd was 9th.
Those involved in the crash, lost 1 min 30 secs to the leaders. |

Tour Down Under Stage 2/6
Clarke broke his shin bone and is out for 22 days.
There was a 5 man break away with 70kms to go. Little pack reaction initially. As the pace quickens, Dawson is dropped with 30 kms to go.
Start of the sprint, not looking good for us. The hills have taken it out of us.
McEwen from Sacchi, Davis
We are now along way down the classifactions. |

yes not looking good for Hutchinson, injured in the Jayco Bay stage 4
and in Tour Down Under, but you still make him continue??
if you think that he is still useful then i really doubt he is, because once they're injured they don't perform as well.
but apart from that nice stuff in the nationals |

I never knew that, it badly affected them. I will make them abandon in the next stage.
Thanks about the props for the nationals, i feel i was lucky. |

Tour Down Under Stage 3/6
Hutchinson and Dawson withdraw not being to contuine after the shocking crash on the 1st stage. Sprinting responsbiltiy falls to Finning. I am now not expecting much for the rest of the race.
Finning gets dropped with 26kms to go. Only Lloyd and Higgerson left.
Davis wins from McEwen, Sachhi (sorry no screenshot)
Overall: Higgerson/Llyod + 1min 43 seconds (20th/24th)
Stage 4/6
Another flat stage. Finning is likely to be dropped again. The really fireworks for me will be stage 5.
An early 5 man break away gets chased down. The pack gets back together with 30km to go. Finning gets dropped however. So my main goal is to make sure Lloyd and Higgerson do not lose too much time.
Nibali and Milesi have a big lead.
Sachhi takes it from Nibali and Zabel.
Davis was 13th but keeps his overall lead and the points jersey.
Stage 5/6
The mountain at the end will determine the stage and overall results. I hope Lloyd and Higgerson can put in a reasonable showing.
There was an initial 5 man break away featuring Tom Steels, with no real threats. The lead was down to 1:40 at the start of the climb.
Zabel, Davis and Willems are the 1st over the mountain. Rasmussen and co are not attacking and so must be in bad form.
Lloyd makes it over in 9th, Higgerson in 11th.
Davis wins easily from Zabel and Willems.
Higgerson 9th (11th overall)
Lloyd 11th (1th overall)
They were given the same time as the peloton as they lost alot of time over the final few kms.
Stage 6/6
Dead flat. 96km. Should be a sprint finish.
Finning is 4th at the start can he hang on for a top 10?
McEwen takes it from Hushovd and Nazon. Finning is 14th
Overall:
Davis wins easily.
Higgerson 16th
Llloyd 17th
All in all not too bad given the problems i had. Up next we are in Malayasia for the Tour of Langkawi. |

Tour of Langwaki Stage 1/10
81km dead flat. Early 10 man breakaway, that gets cuaght on the line, however they hold on for the top spots.
Hutchinson 13th Finning 15th
Stage 2/10
Flat again but 164 km this time. Early 9 man breakaway (No one wants to control the peleton, and we do not have the strength to do so). As the pace gets turned up alot of guys start to struggle. Only Hutchinson has a decent chance of getting an ok position in the sprint. MConnell one of our mountain hopes gets dropped as well. Hutchinson cracks and cannot keep up. Usov takes a great stage win. McConnell loses 2.46 to the pac, which dents his overall chances.
Stage 3/10
1st of 2 mountain stages on this tour.
Early 6 man attack. With 1 threat in it, but no reaction from the peleton. the peleton struggles to reduce the gap. It is still 4:30 mins when we hit the start of the mountain.
Attacks start at the bottom of the climb.
Garica is 1st to summmit with a 30 second gap.
Missed the finish (sorry)
Higgerson/McConnell 28th/29th 8.14 back.
Stage 4
Flat. 142.4 kms. Another breakaway this time a 3 man one. Again as the speed increased, we really struggled. Finning and Hutchinson again run out of energy before the finish.
Chavenel wins from Kirsipuu |

Stage 5/10
Final mountain stage.
Early 8 man breakaway which held a 4:30 lead when we hit the finall 33 km climb. A fast pace was set which split the peleton on the climb. Balini built a 2 minute lead with the 22 man peleton chasing. McConnel cracks and gets dropped with 4 kms to go as well.
Panaria 1-2 with Cruez beating Balini.
McConnell is 26th overall
Higgerson 29th
Stage 6/10
Flat 178.4km. A 4 man break away gets away early and 1 rider, Maccanti is never caught. Hutchinson sprints alot better and gets 4th, Finning was out of position and gets 10th.
Stage 7/10
flat but with slight hills (thats bad for my team) 188.4km. I hope i get another good performance. Higgerson failed to get into 2 early break aways, so just sat back and hoped for a mass sprint finish. Finning gets dropped early and Hutchinson tires early, so the sprint might not be great for me. Everyone tires at the end so i end up having to watch the mass sprint.
Furlan wins from Chavanel.
Stage 8/10
72km dead flat. Early break away came to nothing. Race ends in a mass sprint.
Ultra close finish. Hutchinson just ran out of legs.
Huthcinson 7th
Finning 9th
Stage 9/10 Time Trial
Simulated this
Much better from us. Time trials are a strength of ours.
Stage 10/10
Flat. 60km.
Furlan wins again. Hutchinson was 5th.
Higgerson 24th overall, McConnell 26th
Next race is Tour of California. |

My team was 2 sprinters, 2 hilly/climbers, 2 support guys. The support guys are so weak they get dropped near the end of the race when running in the peleton so i figure they have 0 chance in the breakaway. In later stages Higgerson tried to get in a breaks. |
