1/1/2013: Get ready for some German talent…
Get ready for some brand new colors in the peloton: Team ABUS hits the road in 2013. A fresh new German team aiming to develop the next German cycling hero. For too long our media have been neglecting cycling, doping news has been overshadowing the beauty of our sport, races have been fading away. While Tony Martin and Marcel Kittel make German cycling shine again today, the Team ABUS German Cycling Project wants to make sure follow-up is assured for tomorrow.
Our team begins at the level where we can start raising our future stars the best: as a UCI continental squad. A perfect start, since it will be possible to combine the biggest German professional races with a development program for our youngest guys. From the Bayern Rundfahrt and ProRace Berlin to Olympia’s Tour and the Giro della Valle d’Aosta: we want to show our – and Germany’s – colors in every race.
Obviously, we’re aiming higher than this continental level. As our riders will grow, we want to grow with them. Getting a ProContinental license, earning a wildcard for the Vattenfall Cyclassics: for sure things on our wish list for the near future.
And why shouldn’t we dream of WorldTour?

Herk-who?
GOod luck, I like these careers that start with lesser-known riders. But between Zabel and Sutterlin you already have a lot of wins lined up, if you go with them both.

2/1/2013 Team presentation (1): The goal getter
Yes, the goal for Team ABUS is developing German talents into future stars. But since our main sponsor is investing a fairly big amount of money in the team, he also wants to see some commercial return. Since we want to give our young guns the chance to grow in the shadow, we searched for a goal getter with some more experience to fulfill many of our sponsor’s goals. Marcel Meisen will be that guy. Formerly a cyclo cross rider, Marcel is now 24 years old and focusing on a road career. With a strong finish and the abilities to survive a hard race with either hills or cobbles, he’s a card to be played in many classics and stage races.
Marcel celebrating one of his road wins for a former team. In 2013, Marcel will be aiming at his road career at Team ABUS.
Spoiler Meisen is quite underrated in the PCM Daily Real Name DB. Gave him the stats that I think are realistic for a multiple 2.2-race stagewinner that showed strong things in both mass sprints and hilly stages.

Thanks for all the comments, guys! Some guesses for the line up of my team are correct, but as I excepted nobody would think about Meisen.
Btw, this won't be a 100% German team, I also reserved few spots for talented foreign riders. Btw, I'm aiming at very young guys with plenty possibilities to grow. So if you want to do some more guesses... |
