I couldn't find the search option in this forum, but I just use this opportunity to say hi to everybody
To my question.. Shall I try to get a Wild Card to any race as a Pro Continental team and be happy that I get one, or should I try to get one to only the races I really wanna participate in (and have a chance to win).
Don't know how high chances are to get a wild card, and it's quite difficult to plan the season without knowing where I'd be able to participate..
I'd only try to get one that you really want to participate in
It's not smart to waste a form peak to a race that is WT, but where you're basically chanceless. Take for example the Giro. Say you have an average PCT mountain leader, about 75MO. In the Giro, you can get a nice 22th place. Although, you waste a form-peak(assuming that you peak for a big race like that), and you could've raced in a lot of other nice races. In addition, you (almost) get 0 points for a 22th place in the Giro. At the same time, there's the Tour of California. If the mentioned leader would peak for that and ride that, he could have a 6th place. That'd give a big amount of points, and it's nicer to ride 6th in a quite big race than being chanceless in a big race, I think.
Also, a tip I could give you is always have a 2.1/2.HC backup race ready if you don't get the wildcard. No Vuelta? Fine, then I'll ride USAPCC/Denmark. No Tour or Pologne? Right, Quinhai lake and Österreich Rundfahrt are nice races as well
Thanks a lot!! I agree it's the best answer I could hope for.
As you said, I already got turned down by the TdF and Vuelta I'll cancel my giro request then. I play as IAM and the sponsor's top goals are stage wins at the Tour de Suisse and Romandie. But I'm not even sure yet if I can participate... a bit weird. I guess I'll try to get an invitation to the classic cobblestone races and leave it at that. Focus on winning continental races
