Kirchen and Talabardon, and Grau are the favourites from the odds makers. Everything should come down to the showdown on Mont-Megantic, at least the spectators hope. Otherwise it will be the time trial tomorrow that will decide our winner.
The climb to the finish is rather tough to be classified as "hilly".
A breakaway quickly forms after the gun.
Aleksiev
Bush
Porsev
Duran
Aleksiev wins a very close sprint at the first prime as the breakaway has pulled out a lead of 4 minutes over the peloton already.
Duran beats Aleksiev at the cat. 3 climb and they have expanded their lead to over 7 minutes. The peloton doesn't seem worried though.
Aleksiev takes both sprint points, and again their lead continues to go up as it's 8 minutes now. 75kms to go.
Gazelle and Cadbury start chasing shortly after and start closing down the gap.
Duran takes both climbs today but still trails Aleksiev (16 to 20) after he took points from the peloton during stage 1. But there are still points available at the finish if they do make it all the way.
Beltran attacks from the peloton on the same climb. Still 33kms to go and a lot of flat roads before the climb to the finish.
Beltran's attack has caused some uneasiness in the peloton so more riders attack after the climb. And big names as well:
Salas
Warbasse
Dombrowski
Grau
Naibo
Remind you, we are still 20kms from the final climb!
Beltran joins the breakaway with 21kms to go, while behind Gazelle is making sure the other attackers aren't going anywhere.
And Gazelle brings everyone back for Westra, can they keep it that way when we finally start climbing?
Here we go, 5kms to go. 58 riders still up front.
There are attacks off the front but nobody can get away, it's the same problem we have seen all season long. And look at that Thorckler is going good up front with his yellow jersey.
Ilias is the first to get a small gap.
But it's closed down by Kirchen. Opening the door for an attack by
Westra.
And Westra breaks through, but he is also closely followed by Rudaskov.
Rudaskov is now going for the past as there is just 1000 meters left, they have opened a 20 second advantage.
From behind they are being chased by Jumabekov, Talabardon, and
Torckler.
Menchov is making his move on the left while Jumabekov is trying to close the gap up to Rudaskov and Westra.
He followed the right attack and saved enough energy to make the pass, great win for Rudaskov. Westra comes home in 2nd and will be like his chances to take 1st overall tomorrow.
Jumabekov takes 3rd, 11 seconds later. Great to see the organizers giving out time gaps on a decisive stage considering it has been a problem all season long.
8 seconds after Jumabekov is Yannick Talabardon, Denis Menchov, David Boily, Kim Kirchen, Jordi Grau, Michael Torckler, and Sergey Firsanov in the next group making up the top 10. With this group coming in 19 seconds behind Rudaskov, Torckler will have to give up his yellow jersey to him even though he fought so hard to keep it.
However Torckler will keep the points jersey, and Aleksiev will take away the KoM jersey from Barbari. And to end on a high note, the youth jersey is now in the hands of a hometown favourite David Boily after he finished 6th today.
