Beginners Info?
JoshK
Is there a guide for beginners somewhere? I watch every stage of the Tour De France each year and that is about all I know about cycling.

When it comes to the interface it is all pretty overwhelming.

I saw a video on youtube about a leadout train. Does anybody have links to maybe a lets play or some other walk through type videos or text guides?

thanks,

josh

edit: I also installed the names/stats db that is in the downloads list.

Really struggling to keep my team together for the sprint at the end of the stages. Like I keep playing stage 1 of the Tour de France and everything picks up pace and I can't get dudes to stay together even if I have them on follow / position here etc.

Hi i think lots of new people to the game are confused by the energy and how the effort of the riders works besides the tips i give go to you tube and watch some videos youll get the idea of how things work better .

try this put all of them near the front at start of race now put there effort up to say 80 and have them hold position so when the race picks up pace they will be ready ,,now when your like 30 km away from finish put all there efforts up higher again 90% or even 99% but dont make them work just have them follow now as the race gets faster again they will be ready to go but they must be suited for the race you cant ask a climber to do much on sprinters course etc etc and as it gets really close to the finish have them follow certain players for best results thats just simple easy .

p.s you can put there effort up to 99 at start they wont use energy as long as there just sitting in the pack ...

Thanks for the tips! Gonna do some more flat stages until I finally win one.

another hint: you might want to start in another race. Tour de France has its own laws and drains the energy right out of the riders. If you want to try sprinting, play the Tour of Qater or something Wink

You are on the right track so far. I talked to you last night and it's good that you're sticking to single race mode so far, and just trying out things.

I've just stumbled across your topic here and it immediately reminded me of an earlier post I made (ironically exactly one year ago) so I dug it up for you:

Hi and welcome.

I'm assuming that if you bought this game, you know a thing or two about cycling. If you don't, then make sure you get an idea on how the sport works in general. The Tour De France is coming up, watching it completely would be a good start if you aren't familiar with the sport itself.

Now when it comes to the game itself, Kentaurus's guide is really good. It helped me set my first steps into the game. If this is your first Pro Cycling Manager game, then learning all the aspects will take a while. I can recommend taking them on one at a time.

For your first experience, you should not jump straight to carreer mode. Instead, start by trying out single races in single player. This way, you can familiarize yourself with all the buttons and actions that you can do during a race. Learn how to control a team in-game. Also, learn how the stats work: this way you know which rider to pick for each race, who will be your race leader etc. Finally, make sure to learn how the AI responds to all the various situations.

I recommend you start by practicing completely flat sprint stages. The stage itself is quite boring if nothing happens, but practicing a successful mass sprint win can be very tricky. Also, try getting into the breakaway to see how that works. Pick a WorldTour team and play low-tier (2.1/1.1) races. When you feel like things are going too easy, move on to 2.HC/1.HC races and finally start practicing WT races.

When you're done or bored with flat sprint races, move on to hilly races. When you're done with those, move to cobbled races. Next are mountain races and finally time trials. When you've done them all, try practicing a race with multiple stages, and go for the General Classification. Again move up from flat and easy stage races to the Vuelta, Giro or Tour.

Practicing every stage type until you can win or have a good result will be tricky. As such, always look for tips on the forums. Using the search function will get loads of your questions answered. When you feel like you know how to play the game, start a carreer. Make sure you plan your entire season before you actually start it.

This entire process took me about 3-4 months. Depending on how often you play and how quick you learn, that can be done much quicker. Don't worry though, practicing stages itself is also loads of fun, especially when you get the gratification of a win.

Sry for hijacking ...

Is there a shortcut for saving a rider from another team? Own riders with Strg + Nr. but can i do this in a similar way with the others?

Lachi
You mean you want to map a cyclist from another team to a key on your keyboard.
I guess you are the first player who ever had this wish. Why do you want to do it?
BTW: Strg (german) = Crtl (english)

That is really good and pretty much how I learnt last years game as a newbie. However what I found (and still find) the hardest is planning a season. There are so many factors to consider!

I guess he wants to watch his strongest opponent, to see his location etc...

I don't have the answer though.

Strg / Ctrl - yes

I dont want click on the teamoverview for finding another rider, maybe one, who is also competing for the green jersey.

Lachi
You can make one of your riders to follow an important opponent.
Select your rider, then right click the opponent and click on that circle.
At least it worked like that in PCM 12.

I just won my first race ever in a fashion I will probably never forget.
