Giro del Capo - Stage 5
roturn
imageshack.us/a/img547/5788/4mym.jpg

Todays 6,4km time trial is mountain rated even though almost the half is flat.
The first part to the intermediate might be the hardest, while the last 3rd is a bit uphill again.
The middle part is totally flat, so even the time trialists or weaker climbers could get a chance on a good result.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/gzl_zps14c119b5.png Weening has a nice gap and it`s unlikely that he will that much time on such a short time trial, but some climbers/stage racers, in especially i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/Barclayskenmicro_zps52dc0de5.png Yasmani Martinez surely want to improve here. The Kenya Airways rider is todays stage favourite for most.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/dbg_zps356cc31d.png Rick Flens is one of the weakest climbers here but still one of the best time trialist.
So his time could tell us the importance of climbing skills.
3rd on the harder first half seems not too bad. And with his strength on the flat he gains enough time to set a new best time in the finish.
13s faster than Kochetkov for example.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/arm_zps60f3d6b6.png Adamou is a good comparison. The Cypriot is a decent stage racer and is expected to do well today.
At the first check point he indeed beats the best times and is ahead of Flens.
And coming towards the finish he has surely lost a few seconds. But it`s enough. 4s faster than the Dutch, which proves that you should be a good climber to perform here, but time gaps won`t be too big it seems.

imageshack.us/a/img163/8784/pojo.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Lahsaini had lots of bad luck here and lost his GC chances after a crash and some injuries.
Today he seems to feel better. 5th at the half and 3rd in the finish.
So probably he is still not at 100%, even though his time trial skills are far worse than Flens`.

We already jump to the top7 of the GC as the recent finishers Nardin or Joeaar couldn`t beat the best time, still set by Adamou.
All of them are within 30s to him, which shows the small time gaps here.

Joeaar still did best as actual 4th behind Adamou, Gonzalo and Flens, who still is in a very good position.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/Barclayskenmicro_zps52dc0de5.png Yasmani Martinez. And here comes the stage favourite.
He was already the best at the checkpoint and kept doing a high pace.
So it was logical that he would take the actual best time with a time 16s faster than Adamou!

imageshack.us/a/img826/2783/esc8.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Torckler comes next but he is not as strong on the climbs and against the clock, even though he is not the weakest as well.
But already +21 at half time and +37 over the line, this wasn`t enough and he will lose at least that spot to Martinez.

imageshack.us/a/img199/43/7eqd.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/gzl_zps14c119b5.png Nardin in the sprinter jersey was even a bit weaker at the checkpoint (+23) and kept losing until the end (+42).
This will keep him ahead of Torckler, but Martinez will also overtake him moving up into the top 5 already.

imageshack.us/a/img153/7672/3p5b.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Ngue has the same time as Torckler at half time and is actually a similar rider. Just a bit better puncheur probably while having a weaker sprint.
In the end he had also the same time in the finish losing on Martinez but due to yesterdays gap he stays ahead in the GC.

imageshack.us/a/img96/6613/7pfg.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/arm_zps60f3d6b6.png Tamayo Martinez was riding well yesterday. He is a good climber but an awful time trialist.
So his 8th at half time is okay as he finishes 6s ahead of Ngue. But losing 32s to Martinez already with Nieve and Weening to come it will be hard to improve for him.

imageshack.us/a/img196/2601/zhk9.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/fcb_zpse1da305d.png Nieve is one of the best climbers here but can`t beat Martinez at the first point. +2s at least means a 2nd there and he is riding well so far.
It`s also the 2nd in the finish with just +6s! Strong result by him.

imageshack.us/a/img266/2598/j8cb.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/gzl_zps14c119b5.png Weening looks safety in the leader jersey as he would have to lose a lot of time today.
And being 3rd after the harder climb with just losing 6s it looks great for him.
In the finish it`s +15s but keeping the 3rd as also the GC lead.

So he still has more than 1min before the last stage, while the only big GC move was made by Yasmani Martinez, who joined the top5 today plus getting a nice stage win.
