I wont name them all though since there was soon a group of 4 in front, the best of the climbers in that group.
Tim Dees and Alex Howes look set to battle for the KoM jersey, Dees started the day 15 points behind Howes. While Rui Costa (15th Overall) and Nicho Keinath (16th Overall) must be looking for an outside chance of a top 10 rank, should they somehow stay away all day.
Costa and Dees would drop Howes and Keinath though.
Dees leads over the top, while Keinath drops Howes, so the American has to settle for 4th.
Dees is now just 3 pointd down on the american.
Onto the 2nd, and longest climb, Costa drops Dees.
Costa leads over the top, but with 2nd, Dees has taken the KoM jersey.
Fabio Duarte attacks from the peleton in the last kilometre of the climb. The peleton's pace increases and Dominique Cornu is dropped, having been struggling for a little while. Duarte holds a slight gap down the descent.
Onto the final climb now.
He catches Howes but they are both caught, Gesink is sitting at the back gf the group, flanked by Konovolas and Abal. Benat Intxausti surprising comes forward and takes a powerful relay. It stretches the group and Dees and Keinath are almost instantly caught.
Costa is caught too, and unbelievably, Intxausti now attacks!
Here comes Gesink though.
And Gesink holds a gap over Intxausti, while the rest follow in a chase group.
4th overall Lars Boom is dropped!
6th and 7th overall Machado and Grabovski are the next to drop off.
Pluchkin is next!
And he seems to be really suffering as Machado and Grabovski go straight past.
The Moldovan recovers though and rejoins the pair. Gesink is maintaining his lead over Gesink and, if anything, extending it slightly.
Vitor Rodrigues is looking to gain as much time as possible on Pluchkin and Boom to move to 3rd, with him are 23rd overall Jaime Suaza (Too little too late for a good performance), Fabio Duarte (Surprsingly still outside the top 10 in the GC, in 14th), Rigoberta Uran (8th Overall - Could rise to to 5th if he keeps going strong), and David Abal (10th Overall), who isnt doing any work.
Abal and Uran are dropped!
Robert Gesink wins again, 5th stage win in the 10 stage race. Is he a future Grand Tour winner?
2nd on the stage for Intxausti and 2nd overall.
Vitor Rodrigues sprints to 3rd as he moves to 3rd in the GC. Suaza will move up 8 slots to 15th, and Duarte will go from 14th to 10th.
Abal and Uran are only just ahead of Pluchkin, Machado and Grabovski having lost a lot of time in the last couple of kilometres. Pluchkin falls to 4th, and Abal moves up to 9th, while the other 3 are 3 of just 6 riders in the top 20 who stay in the same GC position after this stage.
An impressive 11th for Peter Stetina as Boom comes in. He has somehow scraped 5th overall, only 5 seconds ahead of Machado.
Cornu finishes 25th, nearly 10 minutes down and is fortunate to only fall to 14th.
Its also a bad day for Telecyclists other top 20 GC rider, Dmitri Claeys, who falls from 17th to 29th having lost 24 minutes today. Their underperforming team leader Henao Montoya rose 15 places to 38th overall, but still lost 13 minutes on Gesink.
Henao Montoya came in just behind the 2 best breakaway riders, Keinath and Costa, who both lost positions in the GC today.
