Its mountains, they may not be too steep (Thats still to come in Stage 10) but they provide the toughest challenge so far.

A break goes away, and Diego Ulissi leads over the first climb.

A group of 6 follows, including KoM Pieter Jacobs, but he only crosses the top 7th. American Alex Hows goes over 2nd, and is the biggest threat to Jacobs' jersey having started the day on 19 points.

And Howes wins the 2nd climb.

Tim Dees, Ulissi and Alexandre Aulas follow - Jacobs has already been dropped.

Aulas is dropped on the next climb as Howes takes maximum points again, only just though.

On climb number 5, Ulissi is dropped. Tim Dees takes full points, but with 2nd, Howes is the virtual leader of the KoM competition.

Dees drops Howes in the descent.

Climb number 6 now, the penultimate one. Grabovski and Duarte launch an attack, neither gain ground but 6 others do.
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/avenir73.png

Intxausti and Uran, and then a small gap to Pluchkin, Rodrigues, Machado and Boom. Gesink did not attack but has piut Abal and Konovolas up front to lead the strong chase.

Dees still leads over the top, Intxausti is the only one of the 6 to maintain a gap.

The group of 11 behind Intxausti is Abal, Konovolas, Rodrigues, Gesink, Boom, Hagen, Haceckty, Machado, Uran, Suaza and Howes.

But some riders are missing! 2nd overall Pluchkin is a little way back and Hagen and Hacecky will soon drop back to aide him. While a group of 4 including Grabovski, Kolesnikov and Duarte are also close. Dominique Cornu is in the next group on the road.

The final climb now and Intxausti reaches Dees.

But the Spaniard falters, slows a little and they are both caught.
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/avenir78.png

Time for the Ag2r-France TV masterplan. Abal comes forward and sets a fast tempo, before Gesink then takes over. Abal is behind Gesink and Konovolas in 3rd wheel. As Gesink goes quickly, Konovolas slows a little, holding up the rest of the group a bit and there is a a gap with 1km to go!

Yet another stage win for Robert Gesink!

2nd for Abal, while Intxausti takes 3rd.
