Database: PCM DAILY 2012 DATABASE V2; Difficulty:Hard
Introduction--2012 - Now:
Spoiler Well where to start. I am DS Frederic Aurel, but you can call me Fred! Back in early 2012 I was working in Brussels with the E.U. Someone came up with an idea to promote the idea of the EU(C.A.P) common agricultural policy amongst the public to raise awareness. Long story short they set up Eurofarm, a continental cycling team, through some fluke I was made Directeur Sportif.
I quickly learned the ropes guiding that team. It was made up of mostly continental Belgian riders with some hard headed veterans, I guess you could call them mercenaries. It was hard times, we struggled to attain equipment and couldn't even afford to acquire a half decent jersey, but I wouldn't swap that time for anything. I was a selector for the world champs for Belgium, which saw Gilbert win.
Someone most have been impressed with the set up, someone French that is as BNP PARIBAS, took over sponsorship in 2013 and continued through 2014. Here I became more used to dealing with multinational riders, although I did have one or two bust ups with Offredo, we always made up though! Being a French team, despite not having household names we received many invitations to the top races. In 2013, without a doubt our most prominent rider was French champ Lemoine who even managed a stage win at the Dauphine. But 2014 was much more fruitful.
Our stage race man Pinot really exploded onto the scene at the 2014 Vuelta. Despite losing time in the first week he was clearly the strongest rider in the mountains in the last week taking three victories. Supported by good results from the likes of Froome, Cornu and Elissonde, at the end of 2014 BNP PARIBAS had been promoted to the world tour. A new sponsor came on board, that sponsor was Coca Cola.
In 2015, we did find the racing very difficult racing at the top level at the top difficulty. We had decent results throughout the season, Geniez winning the Criterium overall. Winning four stages at the Giro and having Farrar in the pink jersey throughout the first week but later on the guys disappointed, Pinot barely managed a tour top 10 despite being a favourite, however we were secure as one of the top teams in the world.
2016 was much better and saw the greatest achievements, lead by figurehead Farrar, who was beginning to challenge Cavendish for the title of fastest man in the world. Farrar won more than 12 races/stages, including the overall at the Tour of Qatar, the overall at the Tirenno Adriatico, 2nd at Gent Warelgem and multiple Giro stages. The best win had to be with Felline at Milan SanRemo. We also had Contador, after he had a few years out of the sport. He got off to a great start winning Paris Nice but faltered when it came to the tour finishing fifth although he did win the Vuelta with teammate Sanchez 2nd (although I had left my position at Coca Cola as D.S after the Tour.)
Well that wraps up my experience as a D.S so far. I left Coca Cola, who are now American Express, and I thought my life as a D.S was over but then some representatives from thriving middle east company Qatar Optics came to me with a proposition I couldn't refuse. To build, from the ground up a Qatari based team that will one day compete and succeed in the biggest races in the world. I accepted.
We could only sign free agents at the end of the 2016 season, however, the team has a huge budget for the next season, the majority of riders are on a one year deal and many are about to retire.
----The cycling landscape has changed a lot in since 2012. For example we now have a recent French winner of the Tour with Pinot of RadioShack(now Exxon Mobil) winning by less than a minute over teammate Velits. 2014-2015, saw an epic showdown for the Tour title between Andy Shleck and Yannick Eijssen, Shleck won in 2014 but Eijssen won by '1 second in 2015.
----Van De Sande has emerged as the dominant classics man winning three Belgian hilly classics in the last 2 years, although he will miss the 2017 season with a fractured skull.
---Rabobank continental team, had an exceptional 2016, winning the mountain jersey at the TDF and even gaining promotion to the World Tour. However, with Rabobank still being in existence, Philips arose to replace the sponsor 'Rabobank Continental Team'.
--- Lars Boom, Looks to be the dominant classics man, however he only has 1 win at Paris Roubaix.
---Suitsou, has won the vuelta twice. Rasmussen is World TT champ and Moser is the road race champ. Nibali has won the Giro and plenty of big names have retired.

We could only attract riders who were out of contract. The majority of the squad are on one year deals and many are to retire at the end of the season. Big money is available, however, to invest in the squad from July onwards.
It may not be the best squad, but big trees grow from little acorns. Myself along with coaches, Gardeyn, De Waele and Andreu will aim to get the riders in peak condition for the few races we will take part in 2017.
Everyone in the team will get a chance to shine, but more often than not Kupeshov will get the most chances. He has a decent sprint and we will aim to get many top 10 finishes with him in the sprints.
Arguably the most exciting rider on the roster is C.S.Long. He looks to be capable of developing into a top top rider and hopes will be high for him after he was rejected by Czech team Dukla 2 years ago.

Hey, this sounds cool!
Will you put a small summary for every year at the start, to show what happened(who won the big races and a small write-up).
Also, which DB did you play with?

Wow! Roulston, Lastras, Lagutin and Bazayev still riding. They're getting old. Also nice to see a few Qatar riders (of course). But it's a nice squad.

Nice team indeed...
Not sure if I like the mix of all those nationalities, but it's inevitable with Asian teams I guess
Oh, and Long is awesome!

Oh, and Long is awesome!
Again, how's Kelderman doing?
Is Qatar considered Asian? It's Mid-Eastern, but Asian?
Also: the team is really thin on Qataris, don't you think?

Qatar is officially Asian I think, yes. At least if you 'sort' them on Continent. And also, if you look on nationalities, you can certainly say that the team is Asian. And there aren't a lot of guys from Qatar generated by the game anyway(0 normally, he probably edited the local DB to let them be generated) Current amount of Qataris is nice I think.

Not really as that was all the available Qataris in the database.
JesleyH- Your just sour because there is no Dutch riders. Tbh I think it is a good mix and makes sense. The Belgians/ O'Brien are there because they are acquaintances of D.S Mr Aurel. Roulston is there as he is a model professional. The two Spanish riders like the hot climate and a challenge at the end of their career. Long, knows the region well and likes the terrain/climate. |

Nah, of course not, an Asian team doesn't really need Dutchies that bad. I'd liked it if you kept the team all-Asian, but it's okay, I can live with this
And uhhmm...
Spoiler How is Kelderman doing in 2017?
Edit: Oh, and lol at Rabo CT winning TdF KoM

Thanks all the commenting already. Just to reiterate the squad is made up of free agents from the end of 2016.
Also great summarising comment there MrUFo, some are already the 'wrong side' of 40. |

I guess you just choose a small team, simulated all the races and then add this team (or you just made this team in 2013 without any riders and races) and now starting to write some reports and have a squad of free agents.

Well already half of the content in this thread relates to this... ummm... "Koldarman" (?) I keep hearing about, whoever that is. Classic Jesley
And yeah, Qatar is of course Asian. What else would it be - Europe, Oceania..?
Anyway, back to what I meant to type in the first place: I love stories which reach into the future. And, Qatar... great, something totally new!
Al Ghanin looks like a solid home-grown talent too. |

As we are a Qatari team I thought it necessary to start retelling our performances from the Tour of Qatar onwards. Although the Tour of Qatar is raced very early on in the season, the team has already completed 2 races: Tour of South China and Tour of San Luis.
Tour of South China:
This 90 kilometre race was the first of the season and what a race it was for us. C.S.Long was very aggressive putting in a lot of attacks, he even managed to set up the sprint for Bazayev. With no other teams interested in the depleted bunch sprint, Bazayev was launched well and just held off Aramendia (Bretagne-Schuller) for a win. What a result, a win in our first race. Bazayev still has it!
We didn't have any reals goals for the 2017 season, however, in my heart I did hope we could pull off a victory and we did so in the very first race!
Tour of San Luis
The tour of San Luis was harder for the team with an increase to quality in the field. Inxausti (Iberia) won the overall by more than five minutes and took all jerseys to. We struggled to get into the breaks, Bazayev did wear the CQ leader jersey throughout the race, however.......
One rider really shone. That man was O'Brien. On the hilly finishes he was always in the group of favourites, he even managed two 6th place finishes, as well as a top 20 in the TT to boot. He really is in great early season form, he finished 10th overall, a real inspiration to the rest of the team.
@pcm2009------ Man, you tell it like is, brilliant
