Stage 2 doesn't exactly offer anything new, as it's pan flat, just like it's predecessor. Following the big sprinters' failure from yesterday, it will be interesting to see whether anything has changed in the tactics today.
Today's early move is made by Veyt and Rovira. The duo fails to stick for long enough to become the day's primary breakaway though, since the sprinter teams reels them in just before the first intermediate sprint.
Apparently eager to make up for letting his team down yesterday, Abakoumov dominantly sprints clear to take the 6 points, followed by Selig and Demare.
No new break manages to forge clear following the chaseback, so Abakoumov takes the 2nd sprint as well. This time with Demare and Selig switching places behind the Belgian.
After losing quite a bit of time towards the end of stage 1, Gingsjo decides to see if he can gain something back with an attack. 60 km left to the finish.
The Swedish rider does at least successfully create a decent gap of 3'30 inside the final 50 km. Unfortunately for him, the third and final sprint prime removes all hopes of him staying away, as the peloton starts decreasing his advantage when approaching it.
They can't reach him in time however, forcing Abakoumov and Demare to settle for 2nd and 3rd. Abakoumov has thus collected a total of 16 bonus seconds - enough to move him up to provisional 2nd overall.
Gingsjo is meanwhile caught, just before the 10 km to go-banner.
Moving closer to the finish, three trains start to emerge. Die Berg had a rather easy job yesterday, but that wont be the case again as Allianz and Sauber are both looking to challenge.
It is in fact Allianz who sets up the fastest train, leading into the final 3 km. 2nd overall and confusing yellow points jersey wearer Saramotins is sitting perfectly behind Dekkers, while race leader Da Dalto is quite a bit further down.
Carrara peels off with a little over 2 km to go after an impressive pull and leaves over to Havik, who launches for Dekkers.
A few metres further back, Haidar Anuawar and Kochetkov does the exact same thing for their respective sprinters.
Showcasing excellent speed, Haidar Anuawar quickly pulls Awang up alongside Dekkers as they approach the red kite.
Realising that it'll be a tough task to outkick Dekkers and Awang with leadouts like this, Demare and Saramotins both try to catch them off guard by launching before them.
Unwilling to get trapped behind their team mates, Dekkers and Awang quickly jump in response, easily overhauling Demare again.
With 500m left, it looks like a straight duel between them as they sprint side by side. However, returning from behind with higher speed is Abakoumov.
Awang has no extra gear and can't do much as Dekkers speeds clear to nab the stage win and show his true capacity.
Abakoumov came back impressively in the end, but couldn't move around Dekkers and settles for 2nd ahead of Awang. 4th goes to Vattenfall once again, however this time with Moren. Saramotins comes home in 5th.
Abakoumov is the new race leader, mainly thanks to the many seconds he got through the intermediate sprints. Da Dalto couldn't repeat yesterday's performance, but still remains in 2nd, tied with Dekkers 8 seconds back.
