The last stage here in New Zealand is absolutely flat and just 65km long. So another perfect terrain for the sprinters.
Maksimov with 3 wins, Guillén and Torckler with one each are the stage hunters so far and so will be named as top favourites.
Without any intermediate or KoM sprint today only 2 riders were interested to get into the breakaway. These are well known riders here as both have attacked more than once.
Vassdal
Seo
With the short length it makes sense that Gazelle gets early support by Privatbank and Allianz. Nardin in 4th position avoids all crashes as well to bring that overall victory home.
They never had more than 2'30 today and so the peloton perfectly timed the catch.
With 5,4km to go it`s done and the sprint preparations start as usual.
No surprise here that those three teams form their trains. Only the Allianz train couldn`t deliver a victory so far and so they might be extra motivated.
Suray Kopp Havik Morales Gomenyuk Thorsen Guillén Vorganov Giacoppo Hochmann Maksimov Awang Jang Drapac Friedman Porsev Siskevicius Torckler Nardin
With 2km to go it`s time for the last leadout. Who is the strongest of Vorganov, Havik and Morales?
Vorganov obviously wasn`t as Maksimov has lost contact and only is in 9th position now.
Thorsen and Guillen leave the trains and are in the wind already, so it`s a perfect position for Giacoppo, Hochmann and Jang.
Still a very close battle.
From behind also Awang, Drapac and one of those many Ekspla sprinters as well.
Torckler and Nardin definitely won`t play a big role today.
The Ekspla rider is actually a surprise: Meenhorst and none of the better sprinters.
Behind the first group of sprinters, where Jang and Giacoppo are the fastest now, there is already a small gap. So the winner will be decided by these men.
Guillén and Thorsen struggle to keep the pace. But can Maksimov make a comeback like yesterdays once again?
No. In a very close sprint all over the road it`s a surprising winner. Jang was already showing some form yesterday but today he stepped up even more to take the last stage.
Giacoppo as 2nd and Drapac as 3rd complete the podium. Another nice performance by the later and who would have expected a podium without Maksimov and Guillen?
Thorsen with one of his best sprints as 4th ahead of Guillen, Hochmann and Maksimov, who couldn`t get another stage win but taking the point jersey is a good thing as well.
Meenhorst, Awang and Porsev are the last riders in the top 10 today.
Nardin takes the GC after his brilliant win on the 6th stage, while Hugentobler will be on the podium for the KoM jersey.
