The queen stage.
There are three 3rd cat climbs with the hilly sections in the last 35km expected to ruffle the feathers of many in the pack.
Our race leader Lay is likely to find things tough will this effect likely stage favourite Sammy Sanchez?
The King of the Mountains competition will be decided today and the two early 3rd cats are crucial. Three men break clear to tussle over this.
Hayakawa
Nishitani (who is 4th Overall!)
Meul
Meul takes the points at KoM 1 over Nishitani and Hayakawa.
Nishitani returns the favour at KoM 2.
It means Meul and Nishitani share the KoM lead with that one cat 3 still to come.
Nishitani romps away with the sprint.
50km to go: The break are nearly caught! The pace in the peloton done by a mix of Armavia, Gazelle and Iberia.
The sprinters have formed the Autobus, the likes of Day, Sutton, Dekkers, Peeters, Manan all dropped already.
We are Gruppo compacto with 40km left, Nishitani the last of the break to be caught by Sauber now leading.
Attacks from stronger riders begin almost immediately.
Burlutskiy, Salas, Mutsumine and Carrara making the first attempt.
30km to go: They have a gap of 40 seconds over the Iberia led through Chacon pack.
MTN and Gazelle lend a hand with Evian as we start the last categorised climb. Our four leaders having forged out a minute and a half's lead.
As the break nears the top of the climb, Fiellu and Jumabekov attack the Evian/Gazelle led pack.
Race leader Lay is distanced.
Mutsumine takes the climb ahead of Fiellu and Salas the four man break neutralised by the attacks behind.
17.5km to go we have a 37 man group left, Makino and Westra are the only riders present who were in the top 10 on GC this morning.
The truth is the stage winner here is the likely GC victor, with the Lay group already 2.43 down.
Jumabekov is repeatedly trying to get away on the smaller hills that approach the finish.
But he just cannot get a gap on the mainly Gazelle led pack.
Coming into the last 5km you sense Gazelle are on their last legs chasing all these attacks down as Valancia needs by 10 seconds.
He is being chased by Carrara, Ngue, Jumabekov, Jiriakov, Choi, Murakami.
Valancia remains ahead with 3km to go, now 20 seconds clear.
The front positions in the lead chase group:
Jumabekov, Murakami, Ngue.
Westra leads the second rank with Pranata, Carrara, Choi and three Saubers Jirakov, Schurter and Alizadeh.
Altenzul , Mager and Vengenechten are also well forward.
1.8km to go: They are on Valancia.
It'd proving the best strategy was to follow as those that had attacked earlier are fading badly with Pranata, Schurter and Korean Choi coming through.
1.4km to go: Gazelle make their presence known.
Westra, Minnard and Mugerli are fighting their way through, as is Murakami and Sammy Sanchez coming late.
Under the kite it is all change.
Hayakawa, Westra, Minnard are overtaking the best of the early sprinters Schurter.
Westra makes his move on Hayakawa.
He takes the win and regains the leaders jersey.
Hayakawa is second, Koretskiy comes very late to snatch an important third from Sammy Sanchez.
