Sprinter can't stay with the train

I am in the fifth season of a career game and am getting frustrated with a sprint talent I have developed. He has SPR 79 but I can't win a race with him because he can't hold onto the train.

Basically I set up the train with him on the back and then burn my men off at high speed on the dot. By the time we get to the final 3km he invariably has barely any red and not much yellow left. I just ran a TDU stage which his leadout man fortunately won (SPR 77) with our man in tenth unable to hold the wheel never mind come round.

His stats are:

FLA 71 MOU 58 HIL 66 TT 64
PRL 69 COB 60 SPR 79 ACC 76
DH 65 FIG 61 STA 72 RES 68
REC 66

I have moved to training him on Puncheur to try and get his RES up but I am still mystified why he can't get involved in a sprint finish

Well that FLA stat is not great and will be the biggest issue. Also its the TDU so fitness will have big impacts at this stage of the season as well.
But yeah most likely the FLA stat and/or fitness. Simples Smile

Build RES and FL. They aren't high enough for strong trains. Also, he might get lost on small hills if his MO/HIL are that low, so Puncher training is good for him. Wink

Thanks both. Does Puncheur training improve Flat, or would I need to choose TT or something for that?

Here you see what you train with what goal. Note that a 0 doesn't mean that he doesn't progress at all. The rider just doesn't get an additional bonus.
