Lay, Hochmann, and Guillen are the sprinters to beat for stage 2.
The first attack is from Cioban, followed by Oliver, Tanovitchii, and Mihaylov.
Jumping across the gap is Vink a few kilometers later.
But that is no go as Die Berg closes down the gap to where more riders are able to try an attack.
Getting into the opening breakaway is appealing to a lot of riders today as we can't seem to find the right cobination of riders as Abreu leads the next attempt.
He is joined by Barclay, Nel, and Vink.
And these four guys have cracked the code becoming the BOTD nearing the first sprint point.
Vink opens up the sprint 1200 meters from the line and could use the bonus seconds as he is best placed GC rider in the group just 10 seconds off Rijntjes' lead. But the best sprinter by far in the breakaway is Barclay, who starts from the back of the group.
And it is Barclay taking the sprint ahead of Vink and Nel.
Nothing happens on the way to the final sprint point except Kenya Airways keeping a close eye on the breakaway.
This looks to be the last little excitement for the breakaway as the peloton already has their lead down to 1'20" as they open up for the final sprint point. They are almost in the same positions as the were for the first one except for Nel who is in a better position in 2nd.
But that doesn't seem to help Nel because Barclay goes right around to go 2 for 2 and Vink gets another 2nd moving him within 2 seconds of the yellow jersey with Abreu taking what's left.
10kms to go and the breakaway is caught, they never really had a chance as the sprinters weren't going to waste their opportunity to get a hold of the yellow jersey today.
As the green jersey wearer Flens is pushing the peloton towards the finish he drops the current youth leader Paillot.
BCR steps to the front with 5kms to go with Esquivel, Colex, Morales, and Guillen. Lay is right on it and hooks himself to the back of Guillen's wheel.
But he gets bumped off by Speirs. Die Berg line up to challenge BCR on the left with Petrovski, Hochmann, and Rizza. Thorsen wants in on the action as well getting behind Rizza.
Then come the rest of the sprinters behind Thorsen,
Meenhorst
Papok
Schinker
Tiainen
Polivoda
With Chicchi and Friedman fighting for Polivoda's wheel.
Rijntjes is the first man to start sprinting, either to confuss the sprint trains or he is showing his manager that he is at least trying to save his yellow jersey.
And he actually gets pretty far up into the leaders, but they have yet to kick. Guillen and Rizza look tough to beat in their current positions.
700 meters left and Rizza and Guillen make their moves. They can't get nervous because the other sprinters are already going at full speed and are pulling up next to them.
Like I said, they have to go as Papok shoots through the middle and takes the lead!
But Rizza and Guillen can't seem to find their next gear. Opening the door for Speirs, Meenhorst, Lay, and Thorsen to pass them.
Speirs and Lay may have ran out time to catch Papok for the win but a 2nd place is still achievable if they can get around Guillen.
Papok timed his sprint to perfection to get the win.
Photofinish for the top 3, Lay, Guillen, over Rizza. With Thorsen get a top 5 for the 4-man Allianz squad.
The fight to get into the top 10 is also really close with Speirs edging out Meenhorst, Abdallah, Polivoda, and Lasca.
Rijntjes gets to keep yellow for another day as the top 3 were too far behind after the prologue for their bonus seconds to catch them back up.
Vink just hangs on to the back of the peloton to jump into 2nd overall and could be looking to take the lead with another breakaway attempt tomorrow.
The only riders losing time are Vink's breakaway companions, and Paillot. So he hands his youth jersey off to none other than Vink.
