i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/vtf_zps1d97281a.png Larsson, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/dbg_zps356cc31d.png Flens, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cre_zps8fb855ae.png Niemiec, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/anc_zps34cc1374.png Barton, and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ekc_zps98eb3bbc.png Joeaar are the favourites to grab the opening yellow jersey.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/Reports/Turul%20al%20Romaniei/Stage%201/1_zpscbf1c3c5.jpg

The 3rd rider out and setting the first major time to beat is i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/Barclayskenmicro_zps52dc0de5.png Rijntjes at 8'03".

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/Reports/Turul%20al%20Romaniei/Stage%201/2_zps084b4a4e.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Julian Rodas is the first mountain goat on the course. 14 seconds off the pace set by Rijntjes.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/Reports/Turul%20al%20Romaniei/Stage%201/3_zps99696cb9.jpg

A similar climber as Rodas is i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/fcb_zpse1da305d.png Perez Sanchez, 8'13" for him moving him into 3rd for now early in the day.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/Reports/Turul%20al%20Romaniei/Stage%201/4_zpsf5912a45.jpg

Magna's climber i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mag_zpsa8a946c8.png Naibo, and...

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/Reports/Turul%20al%20Romaniei/Stage%201/5_zps91576d07.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bvp_zps98bbf78a.png Parra Bustamante finish a second apart. With Bustamante taking it but the battle was for 11th (for now) which is 19/20 seconds back.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/Reports/Turul%20al%20Romaniei/Stage%201/6_zps7057f4cf.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Horgan moves into provissional 2nd but is still 7 seconds off the lead. A well needed performance for the last place bottom feeders Cadbury-Schweppes.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/Reports/Turul%20al%20Romaniei/Stage%201/7_zpsee863368.jpg

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/Barclayskenmicro_zps52dc0de5.png Ndbri is looking to limit his losses and then get it all back in the mountains. Of the 34 riders that have finished so far, Ndbri comes in 30th not good. 33 seconds back.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/Reports/Turul%20al%20Romaniei/Stage%201/8_zpsfa239635.jpg

The first of the proclaimed favourites for today's stage hits the road, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ekc_zps98eb3bbc.png Joeaar.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/Reports/Turul%20al%20Romaniei/Stage%201/9_zps7af9623b.jpg

But he doesn't jump to the lead. Rijntjes had a very strong ride it seems so far.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/Reports/Turul%20al%20Romaniei/Stage%201/10_zps12ee6e76.jpg

A very poor performance by another favourite i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/anc_zps34cc1374.png Barton, as he doesn't even crack the top 10 with a time currently 13 seconds off the lead.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/Reports/Turul%20al%20Romaniei/Stage%201/11_zpsae936616.jpg

20 or so more riders are through and some new faces are at the bottom of the top 10 but the top 5 remains the same.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/Reports/Turul%20al%20Romaniei/Stage%201/12_zps0c628b6c.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/dbg_zps356cc31d.png Flens tries to end Rigntjes' reign on top of leader board but can't do it either. He is 3 seconds to slow.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/Reports/Turul%20al%20Romaniei/Stage%201/13_zpsd3fcc132.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/fcb_zpse1da305d.png Menchov can't crack this solid top 10 either, 30 seconds back. Should be easy to get that back on the mountain stage though.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/Reports/Turul%20al%20Romaniei/Stage%201/14_zps202dd134.jpg

Speaking of mountains... i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ken_zps45e45b07.png Marzano is the next rider to go. +37", so only losing 7 seconds to Menchov. Surely the Spaniard would have liked a big gap.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/Reports/Turul%20al%20Romaniei/Stage%201/15_zps9b333b37.jpg

A few riders later comes i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/vtf_zps1d97281a.png Larsson. Those that are expected a new leader would be... wrong! He doesn't even make the top 10... 19th, 14 seconds off the lead. In a strange twist it looks like the riders that started early have a clear advantage over those going now.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/Reports/Turul%20al%20Romaniei/Stage%201/16_zps3f76955f.jpg

Or Larsson just had a bad day as i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cre_zps8fb855ae.png Niemiec goes a second slower then Larsson.

The major sprinters are the last riders to go so here is a run down of their times:

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Podivoda +20"
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/fcb_zpse1da305d.png Lay +30"
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/dbg_zps356cc31d.png Hochmann +38"
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/abc_zps288913e0.png Thorsen +54"
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bcr_zps86f2c872.png Guillen +58"
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mag_zpsa8a946c8.png Speirs +1'05"
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bvp_zps98bbf78a.png Chicchi +1'07"

And all those plus signs means one thing...

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/Man-Game/Reports/Turul%20al%20Romaniei/Stage%201/17_zps773514e8.jpg

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/Barclayskenmicro_zps52dc0de5.png Rijntjes is the winner! The 3rd rider out of the gate takes a stunning victory where the morning riders out shined the late starters for no real reason. The wind was constant all day and the weather didn't change at all, weird. If the remaining 8 stages are like this we are in for a wild and wacky tour.
