France Televisions and Credit Agricole keep the gap controlled though.

So by the time the Jaizkabel came, the break were not too far ahead.

Di Luca, Schleck, Sanchez and Bettini attack too. Cunego goes aswell, a little later.
Boogerd catches the break first. Valverde can be seen going round the turn while Di Luca, Sanchez, Schleck and Bettini connect to the back of the group.

Boogerd attacks again while Cunego is caught by the pack. They go over the top of the Jaizkabel:
Boogerd has a solo lead, Valverde, Di Luca, Schleck and Sanchez follow, along with Bertogliati, Naibo and Van der Velde from the break.

The Alto de Gurutze was the final test and the chase group got rid of Van der Velde, Bertogliati and Naibo.
Boogerd still leads though.

The 4 chase riders did their best to attack each other, with Valverde seeming the weakest. Nothing happened though as the attacks were badly timed - right before descents.
Schleck is forced to lead the sprint as the weakest sprinter of the bunch.

Boogerd only begins to sprint as Valverde moves past. Too late for the dutchman.

Paolini takes 7th having ridden away from the peleton.
The battle for 8th was very tight, with Garzelli winning 8th, just ahead of Jufre and Mazzoleni.
