Final stage in the Romandie and it`s still very close. Schleck has a small lead but with Machado and Spilak two riders are just a bit behind him. And also the next 5-6 riders all have fair chances to mix it up again.
Also the KoM competition is still open even though Kulhavy is having a nice gap already.
A group of 6 attacked early and created a 4min gap until the first Cat.1 climb.
Boonratanathanakorn
Hernandez Gutierez
Deignan
Zeits
Kreuziger
Sprick
This is also good news for Kulhavy as none of those 6 was able to get many KoM points so far.
Boonratanathanakorn takes the 16 points on top ahead of Hernandez and Sprick.
None of them were really fighting here, not even Kreuziger, who could have been expected to do this for his team mate Kulhavy.
Great effort by Riblon. The French attacked during the climb when the group was almost 4min ahead. But as he climbed faster and also took a lot of risks on the descent he is able to join them with 111km to go.
None of the riders in the group is a real danger for the GC and so Vesuvio doing smart by allowing them to take the win here and more important the bonus seconds.
Going up the 2nd climb the gap is up to 5'40 and growing.
This time Kreuziger is taking the points ahead of Deignan and Sprick. Not sure if this was working for Kulhavy or just random. Probably more of the later as there again wasn`t any attack.
And as nothing happens at the moment a jump ot the Cat.3 climb. Riblon taking the points uncontested ahead of Deignan and Kreuziger.
75km to the finish and the gap of 7'40 looks promising.
Deignan is collecting nicely so far as he tends to be in the first half of the group at all the KoM`s. So is Sprick, who finishes 2nd here ahead of Zeits and Kreuziger.
Not that the group was dangerous in any way as the best placed Riblon is almost half an hour behind race leader Schleck. But Vesuvio at least highers the pace a little bit bringing the gap down to 7'10 with 50km to go.
Hernandez, Sprick and Riblon is the order at the next KoM. Unfortunately it`s a very boring stage so far with the KoM`s being the very small highlights. But as the riders don`t want to attack there, it`s not that exciting either.
Deignan takes the last KoM sprint of the day. Only the finish will give a few points but none of them will be able to get Kulhavy out of the jersey.
Just like yesterday Amador attacks out of the peloton hoping to gain more time. Yesterdays effort was pretty nice but in the end without success. He surely hopes to have more of it today.
With 20km to go and a gap of 5min the stage win should be gone but taking time on the others could be far more important.
More riders decide to do the same. Machado is 2nd in the overall and just 13s behind race leader Schleck. So his attack is definitely a sign that the final could become very exciting.
He is followed by Alarcon and Gesink.
UPS attacking behind. UPS also attacking in the breakaway. Riblon looks the strongest here and attacks in a steep corner. Only Sprick is trying to follow with 6,6km to go.
The gap to Amador is down to 1'46 with the peloton of 62 riders including the latest attackers around Machado being another 42s behind. So the gap really was closed a lot on the last kilometers and even the stage win is not impossible now.
Amador is almost caught by the favourites. Alarcon feels very strong on the hilly terrain today and attacks once again. He is followed by Gesink, Uran, Pluchkin, Sella and Machado.
A bit more than 5km to go and the breakaway is really suffering now.
So far no attack was successful. So it`s Sella trying it again with Alarcon following. Obviously it`s another day for the climbers here.
Riblon was caught in the meantime again but did try it once again. He is having a 17s gap to Deignan, Hernandez and Zeits, while Kreuziger and Sprick are almost caught of hte 19 rider group containing all top15 riders. So none of them did lose contact and we already passed the harder first half of the climb.
Di Maggio and also Gilbert already lost contact. So their presence here was not rewarded.
The last kilometer is again a bit steeper than the last 3-4km. Riblon starts the sprint with a small gap to Hernandez and Zeits, while Deignan is struggling.
The favourites slowed down a bit as no one wanted to go first after all attacks were caught. So the time bonuses look to be gone in favour of Andy Schleck.
Riblon really struggled in the end and had to pay tribute to his attacks.
Santander with a nice and needed win here. Hernandez with a bit surprising victory making it a pretty successful race for the team I guess. They surely can`t wait for the their mountain goats to start dominating the GT mountains.
Zeits takes the 2nd ahead of Riblon in 3rd and a bit behind you already see something yellow.
It`s indeed race leader Andy Schleck opening a gap to his opponents. He looks like the safe winner of the 2013 Tour of Romandie.
Within the same time as Deignan Schleck finishes on the 5th today taking 15s on the other favourites, who all finished within the same time. So Machado in 2nd and Spilak as 3rd will also be on the podium.
It might have been a good initiator for the upcoming GT`s as we have seen so many top stage racers here. Some teams surely will hope for an improvement then.
