After the fantastic performance of last year, 2013 is going to be difficult for the Sky Pro Cycling team. (Especially since I will be playing at “extreme”). Cavendish has left the team and focus has shifted even further to the winning the grand tours rather than stage wins. Also for the Flemish and Wallonian classics, the Sky Pro Cycling team has an excellent squad.

Indeed Sky is the best team in the world at the moment, but in extreme mode I don't expect at all that I will be as dominating as the Sky team is in real life. And that would be an ideal situation for me. I like to be competitive in most races wherein my team starts, but I surely do not want to win everything. This would be very boring and not very entertaining.
I'm using a self made mix between the PCMdaily database and the French_FCD database (FCD stats, more teams and all the good things of PCMdaily).

The Sky Team has arrived in Australia, where they are training and preparing for the Santos Tour Down Under. Hagen, Eisel, Hayman, Rowe, Stannard, Sutton and Thomas will start, while also Richie Porte was present in Australia. Together with Hayman and Sutton he will compete first in the Australian National Championships.

I will predominantly select the races and lineups that Sky also used this year (plus a couple of additions). Over the whole line Sky starts in the most interesting races anway and has interesting line-ups in most races. Copy-pasting what they did also allows me to use photographs such as in the post above.

Australian National ITT Championships

The Australian National Championships turned out to be a very close battle between Durbridge and Rogers. After the first and second section both riders clocked the same time. Porte was already more than 15 seconds behind but managed to get from outside the top 10 to the podium by an excellent last section. Bobridge, Meyer, Kerby and Evans also put fast times on the clock. Eventually it was Rogers who was barely a second faster than Durbridge. He is the new Australian National ITT Champion.

The Australian National Championships started out as a boring race as little happened in the initial stage of the race. But after 40 kilometers into the race it was Crawford who escaped and soon was accompanied by Norris and Calabria.
The pack let them go initially and the breakaway got a little over 5 minutes, but than the pack quickly brought back the escapies to a little over a minute in the final stage of the race. Expectations were that the breakaway would easily be caught in the final kilometers of the race
In front of the race Crawford left his fellow escapies behind. At that time nobody expected that he would make it to the finish alone. The pack was approaching fast.
Orica - Greenedge controlled the pack, but also Blanco and Sky riders were involved in the chase of the breakaway. From the leading position Hayman fell and many riders tumbled on top of him. Several leaders fell back and the organisation in the pack was completely gone with only one more lap to go. The three escapies would fight for the victory. Crawford won before Calabria and Norris.
