Now the cobbels are over, it's time for the "Ardennes", the hilly classics. This thread is for Brabantse Pijl, Amstel Gold Race and La Fleche Wallonne.
Liège-Bastogne-Liège will get, as a monument, it's own thread later on.

Jelle Vanendert is not racing, he is suffering from an infection after his abandon in Pais Vasco. Same for Meersman, stomach problems.

I'm wondering how far Stybar can get here, though it's probably Sagan time again.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Avin Wargunnson
Dont know about Brabantes Pilj, but Sagan is my sure pick for Amstel. Brabantes Pilj will likely be won again with some late move by someone like Voeckler or similar aggresive rider. I am really looking forward to how Stybar will do in hilly classics, but he should be exhausted from Roubaix totally.

If it will come down to sprint, then likes of Sagan, Ciolek, Meersman and Geschke could be near the front.

Would certainly put Sagan and Gilbert as 1 and 1a, you can start picking the outsiders after that. Plenty of good riders, and some teams that I think overall are better than either BMC or Cannondale.

Gilbert really? I cant see him doing anything better than top5 in the classics against likes of Henao, Purito, Sagan(Amstel), Astana trio and many more. Or he was bluffing whole last month...

I'm afraid not. Gilbert looks over the hill, pun not intended...

Does anybody have some info about Valverde , Cunego and Purito ? They are not racing here , but will they be in good shape for Fleche and LBL ?

Ian Butler
Cunego isn't what he used to be and won't be battling for the win, I reckon. I guess Purito will be in a decent form, at least. Valverde wasn't doing so well, last time I heard.

Avin Wargunnson
Lampre-wise, i would watch out for Ulissi, he is certainly a top 5 material. Wink

Yeah indeed he was already really good in Italy. Also Cunego is in a great shape

Wasnt it over for Gilbert last season, and then he won the world champs? I dont think he will be at a good shape at the Brabantse Pijl, but for the rest he is top favorite imo. For Brabant I think a surprise like Van Avermaet or Meersman, maybe even Kroon

That would not be much of a surprise, at least GVA and Meersman are the top 10 favourites right from the start.

World championship for Gilbert, why not, but that is long future. Ardennes, i think somwhere between 3-5 max.

I'm sorry, but how is Cunego in a great shape?

He finished 16th in the Basque country, 3'36" down in the GC behind the likes of Sammy Sánchez (in awful form...), Gadret or Danielson.

Let's not even mention Tirreno, when he finished a whopping 20 minutes behind Nibbles in the GC.

And yes, he did finish second in the really exctiting and highly contested race of Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali beating the likes of Basso or Rubiano, who are clearly top riders nowadays Wink

But you are totally right with Ulissi, you gotta watch out for him!

Watch out for the Colombians this year! Uran, Henao, Betancur and Quintana can all be up there Wink

Also, I don't think either, that it's gonna be Gilbert's Ardennes season...

Gilbert top favourite? No way. I'll be surprised if he even podiums in any race. Amstel is Sagan's to lose, but that's a really open race I think.

And Kroon? He has been declining for 3 years now.

Cunego stays Cunego he is always good at races like the gold race and I really should reconn with him. He has also a good uphill sprint

He stopped being a contender years ago, if you ask me. He wont beat riders like Sagan in a sprint and wont drop them on the Cauberg.

Purito can and 2011 Gilbert too, but this year they need to drop him on Cauberg, because on flat sprint no chance for them.
