The last of three flat races will be held in Maastricht and today could be decisive for the Final GC.
Boy Van Poppel already collected 20 points and if he continues to score high, none of the puncheurs (Criel "leads" with 12 points) would be able to overtake him on tomorrow's Cauberg-finish!
Wouter Weylandt (15 points) wants to repeat his win from yesterday, while Nico Schinker (13) needs be prevent himself from crashing again.
Pieter Serry opens the race with an early attack. He already has 8 points and is one of the puncheurs, who retain chances for the overall win.
He is joined by Zangerle (Lux), De Greef (BPost) and Olivier (NedU23). The breakaway is allowed to go and leads by 1'45" after 3 laps.
Halfway through the race, more possible GC-threats try to follow:
Wesley Kreder (10 points) is as dangerous as Serry. He's accompanied by Minnard (who failed in Simpelveld's hilly race), Duyn and Decouttere.
The attack was empty-handed though. It seems that both Serry and Kreder in a break is too much for the sprinter-teams.
One lap later (18km left), another 4-men-group tries to break clear: again Minnard, joined by Vermeltfoort, Kelderman and Vandousselaere (4 points).
Again the try is short-lived as the peloton paces hard now.
Kreder's 2nd attempt with 12km left will be empty-handed as well. But at least, he tried so far.
Team UPC is in total control it seems, as they lead the bunch into the final lap.
The early escapees still have a lead, but it's melting down to 20" with now 4km to go. They are soon to be caught!
It's going to be a bunch-sprint and UPC's Boy Van Poppel has some strong support today, having a strong lead-out with Jan Hopman just ahead of the final corner!
At his wheel it's Michael Vanderaerden, Theo Bos and Jo Piels' Peter Möhlmann and Kenny Van Hummel, while Wouter Weylandt starts to sprint on the left side!
It looks close with the finish-line approaching, as Bos slips through for the leading position!
Van Poppel now leaves Hopman's wheel to make his final kick, and Möhlmann tries to lead-out Van Hummel to the line.
But it's Theo Bos himself, who takes the victory today! His second "unofficial" win this season, that's more he could have asked for.
GC-leader Boy Van Poppel sprinted for 2nd, Vanderaerden finishes 3rd.
Weylandt, Van Hummel, Möhlmann and Hopman could maintain their position behind, while the rest of the bunch was chanceless: Keukeleire, Kos and Alex Kirsch complete the Top-10.
Van Poppel may have ensured his win here, as Weylandt and well... Bos remain the only ones to overtake him in final hilly stage!
