We pick things up then with two flat stages before the decisive 'long' TT and the queen stage taking in much of the hills in Amstel Gold (before a flat finish for the poor sprinters).
Winless Vantomme has the leaders jersey ahead of the testers and will look to grab whatever bonuses he can to offset the inevitable time loss in the upcoming TT.
The route designers have found a hill worthy of bonifications, it gives us a chance to crown a king of the mountains before the numerous bonuses available on the final day.
Four riders have slipped up the road to contest this.
Fabbri
Petrovski
Hopman
Appleby
Appleby takes it from Fabbri and Hopman, a shame that Die Berg’s Petrovski couldn't with the mountain in Holland!
BCR, Rothaus and ING are at the front of the pack shepherding their fatty sprinters over this 'nasty' climb.
None of the four men clear in the break are good against the clock as evidenced by their GC positions outside the top 40. It means their effort for the sprint prime is likely worthless.
Still I am sure the UPC media centre will appreciate Hopman's edging of Fabbri in a race for the prime over Appleby.
It's a fairly long stage today and the gap manages to top out at around eight minutes.
Shocking moment here as Vantomme falls midway through the stage meaning he slips back out of the pack.
Olivier, Van Heerden, Iglinski and Sbaragli drop back to pace him back. Which they do quite quickly.
With 40km to go our four man break has 3.30, the hard working Rothaus team are doing most of the work having recovered from that earlier mishap.
The break though make the final sprint prime with Fabbri gaining a small measure of revenge on Hopman, Petrovski managing third.
The late sprinting has increased the gap with the break having 1.40 with 15km left. Mind you Rothaus are not going to leave anything to chance and are working double time to reduce the gap.
AirBaltic are notably near the front here, are they going to play their split aces policy? Kip and Guillen are also around hunting that stage win.
The break ends with 6km left and now it is time to climb aboard the sprint trains.
We have two of 'em
BCR have just one driver Cano with Guillen, Kip, Rizza, Docker, Hutarovich, Kreder, Bennett, Tzortzakis
Rothaus look strong as ever with Tendero, Van Heerden, Vantomme, Rowe, Drujon, Nelson, Drapac, Fabbri, Van Loocke, Vaitkus, Traksel, Kurth, Hushovd, Van Poppel.
Tendero soons drops off and Cano impressively pulls BCR forwards.
2km to go.
Kip and Rizza remain on Guillen's wheel as Drapac manauvres himself into Rizza's slipstream vacated by Docker. Docker has moved behind teammate Rowe on Vantomme's wheel. Drujon is muscled away by Hutarovich, Nelson and Bennett.
1.4 out and Vaitkus is miles back.
Rizza launches with 1200m to go.
Keukeliere has made it to teammate Drapac's wheel from nowhere as Vantomme sits patiently.
They head round a bend into the final 900m.
Vantomme has a bit to do as Guillen moves past his lead out. Kip, Drapac and on the right Drujon are well placed
500m to go and it's a twisty finale.
Rizza has his nose out front just ahead of Guillen and Kip. Vantomme, Drujon and Bennett are also moving well with Drapac and Rowe trapped.
Vantomme makes a charge.
There is the line Kip and Vantomme look favourites.
100m
Crack open a beer.
Vantomme takes a win.
Rowe follows him through for third, Kip second, Guillen 4th, Kreder fifth, Rizza sixth, Drapac 7th and Drujon 8th.
Kip moves to second on GC, with Vantomme now having a comfortable GC and points lead.
