Avelino (Prio), Greipel (WWE), Kupfernagel (AMEX), Davis (Hollistar), and Keough (AMEX) names that we are familiar to seeing are favoured to win the final stage of the 2013 Tour de San Luis.
The last flag drop as the riders are on their way.
The breakaway of the day gets away a few kilometers after the start.
Ebsen (Vattenfall)
Soto Pereira (Adira)
Bonnin (Bintang)
Jumabekov (BCR)
The KoM comes and goes with no interest as only Ebsen had come in with some points. Thus meaning Seledkov (Bintang) will be San Luis King of the Mountains winner, followed by Hutchings (Ekspla) and Betancourt (Hollistar).
The sprint point goes uncontested as well with Ebsen rolling over before Soto Pereira and Jumabekov. Looks like they are more concerned about making it to the finish, and they are going good so far with a 6 minute lead with 130kms to go.
100kms to go, Hollistar and Prio-Porto having been doing all of the work. And have allowed the breakaway a maximum of 7'30" but are now starting to slowly reel them back in.
We get a crash at the top of the climb as we ride over for the second time today, and everyone take a deep breath as it's Salas (Alstom). Durasek can't be happy to lose a teammate but he should have no problem making it to the finish now.
At the final sprint their is no motivation, so Bonnin even takes the time to stretch out. Jumabekov, Ebsen, then Bonnin.
Starting the climb for the final time and the gap is down to 3'20". So Zabriskie is the virtual leader on the road again without his team doing any work today. Also WWE have started to chip in for Greipel.
The breakaway gets over the top with a 3 minute lead with 37kms to go.
A tight turn with 8kms to go and everyone stays on their bike, a sigh of relief can be heard over the team radios. The breakaway is losing ground fast as WWE is closing the peloton in.
And again it's Kessiakoff who bring the breakaway back, 5kms to go. He has been absolutely brilliant over the past 7 days.
As Kessiakoff pushes on there is no time for the GC contenders to put in a final attack against Zabriskie, so we go to the sprint were Kessiakoff finally peels off the front with 2,700 meters to go. Leaving Pineau to lead out Greipel and the rest of the sprinters.
And it's just WWE making a small train. Saramotins tries to stir something up as he starts his full sprint on the right with 1.8kms to go.
Greipel then kicks a 100 meters later with Feillu locked onto his wheel. Behind Feillu some was gone wrong with Vasylyuk's gears as he is fading back fast.
So this quickly turns into a 5-way sprint. Greipel, Feillu, Saramotins, Bazajez, and Geschke (who must have finally gotten roturn's message to sprint! ). Where is Avelino, Davis, and Kupfernagel?
About 10 riders back... They need to make a move. Every position counts as the points jersey is still on the line. Speaking of which, Lorenzetto is stuck back here as well.
Feillu waits as long as possible, and with 700 meters to go makes his move into the lead.
But here comes Geschke and Bazajev up opposite railings.
And they go right past Feillu...
Geschke is looking to regain trust in his manager.
And Bazajev is looking to cap of a great tour for ING.
And it's Geschke who gets the win. Looks like the climbs hurt the pure sprinters more then expect. 2nd and Points Winner is Bazajev
with Feillu hanging on to take 3rd.
Zabriskie gets across the line, and is your winner of the Tour de San Luis after his great ride against the clock on stage 4.
But the drama isn't over yet, there is a split in the peloton during the sprint!
It's a repeat of yesterday! Who missed out...
2nd Overall, Durasek (Alstom)
3rd Overall, Paulinho (WWE)
9th Overall, Betancourt (Hollistar)
10th Overall, Proni (Hollistar)
12th Overall, Rudaskov (Ekspla)
14th Overall, Firsanov (BCR)
WAIT... Hold on. Don't break your viewing device managers -
The organizers thought that tiny gap would be way to harsh after 7 stages of racing, so they give the group the same time as the sprinters! You can all stop holding your breath now, the Tour de San Luis is over.
