I know doping is wrong. But at the same time, in that era you have to really search to locate someone who didnt.
So, whats your take on the issue. Should his titles have been strippped? The USADA broke a US (maybe world wide rule) and went back past the normal 7. Lance did pass the tests he was given (no backdated he seems to of failed 2-3). But has any other rider been hit with a ban for 7+ years of backdated results. I am not aware of any, but could be wrong.
I think his ban should be 2-5yrs not life. And that backdated tests should not of been allowed. In his era, he played by UCI and WADA rules on doping and past. Yes he doped, but still past the "governing bodies at the time" tests.
Your thoughts? As Im sure when Jan won the TDF...had they tested his samples now, he had doped
He failed at least one test at the time that he now admits to (the one where he got a backdated prescription to "explain" it away afterwards). So it's not just backdated tests.
Anyway, the rule isn't that you have to pass the test. The rule is that you're not allowed to use certain substances. EPO was illegal long before there was a test for it at all. Add to that the fact that he did a lot more than just doping himself, since he basically led organized doping on that entire team, and used every means he could find to derail the investigation against him, and yeah, I think a lifetime ban is appropriate.
As for his competitors doing the same... personally, I'd like as many of those guys as possible to get bans and have results stripped as well, but the problem is, once you go far enough down the results list, it becomes less and less likely that someone would get investigated (they don't get tested nearly as much as the top guys, either, I'm sure). Doesn't matter too much anyway, though - with a blank row at #1 the whole results list is pretty much meaningless anyway.

What kind of backdated test are you talking about ? GYFS before saying it was allowed.
Yet, do you really think the shape of the rules is more important than their substance ?
Played by UCI rules ? I'm not sure if I'd name getting a special treatment by UCI is what I'd call playing by the rules.
Poor, poor, Lance, people have been so harsh on the champion he is lately...
