It has taken a while today mainly due to i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/arm_zps60f3d6b6.png PFG - Armavia putting all their riders bar Ivano Lo Cicero to pull, but finally, over 20km into the stage, 6 riders have opened a gap

The sprinters teams are clearly satisfied with this breakaway, as they let the gap grow, getting to 4'45'' with 100km to go.

In the first intermediate sprint, Treintin goes first under the banner, with Vanmarcke and Gallego Martin third. The gap has gone down to 4'27'', but this is more due to the break slowing down than the peloton doing an actual chase work.

But just as the peloton reached the intermediate sprint, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Pokerstars.com sends three men to work. Surely, the Belgian team doesn't want another bad result like in yesterday's stage, where Boonen missed the podium.

Second intermediate sprint, and we get the exact same result we got in the first, with Trentin first, Vanmarcke second, and Gallego Martin third. The bad news for the breakaway is that, due to Pokerstars work, their gap is already below the 2 minutes mark with 43km to go.

30km to go, and we can see how small the gap is now. The 6 men breakaway has only 50'' on the peloton led by the Green Armada, which surely wants to dominate the sprint as they did in the first two stages.

Finally, with 19km to go, Trentin is the last men caught by the peloton, where i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/arm_zps60f3d6b6.png Armavia and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/mil_zpsb1abc362.png Milka have replaced Pokerstars at the front. Again, plenty of time for the sprint preparation, which has been common in a Tour of Qatar totally controlled by the sprinters teams, helped by the absence of the wind.

Surprisingly, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/mil_zpsb1abc362.png Milka - AVG are doing their own as well for the first time, while we see no sign of i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Pokerstars.com or i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Puma - SAP setting up theirs, despite the fact that they have arguably the strongest leadouts.

Both trains are head to head now with 3km to go, and it's interesting to see how, out of nowhere, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/srl_zps5f456879.png Michael Van Stayen has found a very good wheel sitting behind Lo Cicero, while Boonen has lost quite a few positions.

The last leaout men, Howard and Caethoven, go with 2200m to go, and the Milka train seem to be gaining some meters now, with Guerao well placed following them.

1500m to go, and Guerao launches his sprint, and so does Van Avermaet coming from behind. The Milka train has definitely been way stronger than Vesuvio's, meaning Swift will have a hard time beating Bewley, but at least he's much better placed than Bennati and Boonen, who struggled without their own trains.

Last kilometer, and Van Avermaet and Guerao fly past Bewley, who should better launch his sprint as soon as possible, because Howard is clearly fading. Both Van Stayen and swift are also coming fast.

Bewley finally goes with 800m to go, but by then Van Avermaet has quite a few meters advantage on him. Swift and Lo Cicero are coming quite fast, and Van Stayen has found himself boxed in by Howard.

500m to go, and van Avermaet holds on, but Swift and Lo Cicero are coming faster. Guerao is clearly fading, and Bewley is starting to get to his top speed.

200m to go, and Guerao is done. Van Avermaet is also fading, so Swift has almost passed him, while Bewley and Lo Cicero will fight for the podium.

And the fight for the second place was much closer, but it's finally i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/mil_zpsb1abc362.png Sam Bewley who comes in second for the second stage in a row. Wildcard rider i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/arm_zps60f3d6b6.png Ivano Lo Cicero gives some joy to his team with a brilliant third place, while i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Greg Van Avermaet finishes fourth, a great result for him, but a tad bittersweet after being so close to the victory. And the fifth place is for i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Daniele Bennati, who should be quite disappointed, as his team's decision to not to prepare their own sprint train could very well have costed him the podium in the final GC.

Despite his weak performance today, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Tom Boonen has pretty much both GC and points jersey in the bag. As we said, Bennati might have lost a podium place today, as Bewley is a better prologue rider, while the fight for the second and third place will be very exciting tomorrow, with three riders in 2 seconds.
