Welcome to the 3rd race of this Crit Series. Time for the sprinters again, who had an "easy" day yesterday. Will Tyler Day win again or can somebody else take this one? Abdallah was his biggest opponent on the first and also Van Heerden wants to prove that he is able to reach more.
Njorogo is out for an early solo ride. Cycling in Kenya definitely became more popular since this year when a new Kenyan Cycling Project was started. Kenyans already dream of a future Tour de France winner in a few years...
He is later joined by Iranian Champion Zhilenko and Berhane.
Abdallah`s and Van Heerden`s teams are doing the work so far. Not much to see of Day`s MTN squad.
3 laps left and the gap is below 2min again. Looking good for another sprint.
Still 2 laps to go but the sprint preparation has already started. Again African Mix 1 with a train for Abdallah but different to the first criterium it`s Team SouthAfrica for Christoff Van Heerden forming the second train with Day hanging right behind him.
13km to go and 3 more attackers. Byukusenge, Gavenda and surprisingly again Saramotins, who is not waiting for the sprint.
None of them had success, but Team Rwanda is not willing to give up and attack again with Habiyambere. Maybe they should use their energy to support Uwimana, who has scored twice already.
All 5 riders of South Africa and Mix 1 are in the front rows now. Perfect trains for their two top sprinters.
A bit more than 1 lap to go and Habiyambere joins the breakaway. Will this give them new energy to avoid being caught?
No. Just a few hundred meters later they are all caught even though Berhane and Njorogo don`t want to give up already.
Mix 1 has taken over now leading out Abdallah in a perfect way. South Africa got blocked in a bit, so Day decided to take Abdallah`s wheel instead with Abraham just behind him. Behind Van Heerden it`s Ben Youcef trying to find a good position.
Will the South African train come back? At least most other sprinters hope so as they are behind Van Heerden. So far so good for Abdallah and Day.
Redecker is doing the final leadout. He wasn`t very good on the first race. But he is looking much stronger today. Behind Kriek is doing the same for Van Heerden.
And Kriek made a fantastic job bringing the 2nd train right behind Tyler Day, when Abdallah starts the sprint under the Flamme Rouge.
He immediately opens a gap to Day, who as well has a gap to Van Heerden and the rest.
But Van Heerden and Ben Youcef are coming fast from behind and also Abdallah`s gap is melting.
But it`s enough for the Egyptian. Nice win ahead of Day, Ben Youcef and Van Heerden.
Abraham on a strong 5th today ahead of the Latvian`s Saramotins and Ansons. Just like Uwimana as 8th the Latvian scored on every stage so far.
Haddi and Jelloul complete the top10 today taking the last points.
