Everyone is ready now for the second stage of the Tour of Qatar, and after i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Tom Boonen's dominant win in the first stage he's the clear favourite to repeat today, with, again

And now, it's i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zps8221b1f2.png Pieter Ghylleber who bridges the gap, with 74km to go, thanks to the fast pace of the peloton, which isn't allowing the breakaway's gap to grow beyond the 35-40''.

The break reaches the first intermediate sprint, and Blyther easily takes it ahead of Echarri and Minoungou. The gap is still below the 40'' mark, will the peloton relax soon, or will they swallow the breakaway ridiculously early?

And, as we enter the final circuit, the peloton finally reduces the pace, and lets the break get a 1'57'', to biggest so far.

Meanwhile, in the breakaway, Blythe, Lebris, Echarri and Ghyllebert have attacked, and they left Braico and Minoungou behind. With 35km to go the gaps are:

The front four reach now the second intermediate sprint, with Echarri taking it, Lebris second and Blythe third. With 23km to go the gaps have been clearly reduced by Puma's work:

21km to go, and Braico and Minoungou are the first to be caught by the Puma-led peloton, while their other 4 companions still have 1'21'', which shouldn't be enough unless the peloton surprisignly stops their chase.

As Porte moves aside, Puma's and Pokerstars' trains seem to begin to take form, although by now Vesuvio's has a nice advantage.

Mohs is being the fastest leadout, and is getting Boonen closer to Swift. Then, with 1400m to go, Lo Cicero and Vanderbiest go.

Under the flamme rouge, the leadout men work is over, so Boonen, Swift and Bennati also start their sprint. Lo Cicero is leading now, but he started first, so he could pay the effort.

600m to go and Lo Cicero is still ahead. Both Boonen and Vanderbiest are coming hard though, and so is Bennati, although he started quite behind.

300m to go, and Lo Cicero seems to be fading a bit, ás Vanderbiest, Boonen and Swift are almost taking over the Italian. Another Italian, Bennati keeps going really fast, but it doesn't seem like he can take this.

This is going to be really close, we have four men in a deistance equivalent to half a wheel...

The Belgian had a great leadout by Mohs, but he still hade to be quite fast to beat riders who started the sprint ahead of him. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Ben Swift takes the second place, beating i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pearl.png Romain Vanderbiest by a very tight margin, while (ARM) Ivano Lo Cicero narrowly misses the podium after a great, quite long sprint. The top 5 is rounded up by i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Daniele Bennati, who was arguably the fastest, but started way back his sprint, and that costed him the chance to get bonus seconds.

So, Tom Boonen keeps showing why he was considered the top favourite for this race, and one question arises, has the Belgian the general classification in the bag? For sure Swift and Bennati will need to step up a bit if the want to beat the Belgian, but they still have three more chances to, at least, take a stage win for their teams.
