Hello and welcome to Qatar! The second race in the ProTour calendar will be, barring a major surprise, a great sprint party, and that means that the likes of

All 4 are together, and with over 3' on the peloton, when they arrive to the first intermediate sprint. There, Tolleson pays for his effort, and despite being the fastest among the quartet, ends 4th, with Sokolov taking it ahead of Kinney and Rojas Gil.

With 80 km to go, the gap tops at 5'45'', and it's surprisingly i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/srl_zps5f456879.png Simply Red Bull that send Adil Jelloul to work to the front of the bunch, and the gaps begins to decrease.

50km to go, and Simply Red Bull has up to 3 men working, with the help of two men from i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Koenigsegg, including, suprisingly, Cameron Meyer. The gap indeed keeps going down, and is just above the 3 minutes mark now.

In the second intermediate sprint, it's Tolleson who goes first under the banner, ahead of Rojas Gil and Kinney. By now, they know their breakaway is doomed with just 2'40'' with over 39km to go. Meanwhile the wind has lost much of its strength, so it looks like it won't have much impact today.

25 km to go, and the gap is down to 1'35'', it's just a matter of time for the breakaway to get caught. Now, we start to see several units from i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Pokerstars and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Puma in the front, beginning the preparation of their sprint trains.

Just after the 10km banner, the break is all but caught, but they try a last attack with bery low odds, seeing how Puma, Pokerstars and Vesuvio are setting a very high pace in the peloton

Indeed, the break is easily caught, and the trains emerge with 5 km to go. We can see 3 of them clearly

Lo Cicero is the first one to launch his sprint, just before the flamme rouge. Boonen goes right after him, seeing that Mohs is slowing down, and waiting more would hurt his chances too much.

Boonen overcomes Lo Cicero with 500m to go, but Bennati and Swift are coming fast from behind.

Lo Cicero eventually explodes after his long effort, and Boonen's victory looks sure, and so does Bennati's 2nd place.

The Brit could be a bit disappointed as he was clearly beaten by Boonen and Bennati, while the Argentinian probably make the most out of his strength to get a good result. This first stage thus confirms Boonen and Bennati as top favourites, while others like Lo Cicero, Goss or Bewley clearly disappointed by not even making the top 10. Still, there are another 4 stages for the sprinters, and all of them will have a chance to show what they can do.
