Tour Down Under - Stage 6
roturn
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_6_345.jpg

It`s the final stage and Dowsett is in the leader jersey after yesterdays stage win on Willunga Hill. Gavazzi would need a 2nd at least to get the lead back. Also the Australians haven`t one a single stage yet and today is the last chance.
And also there are quite a few riders still in the fight for the top10. It`s all about positions now so we might see some GC guys participating in todays sprint. From the 6th to the 32nd all riders are within the same time and the stage results will be counted. So we might see a lot of changes in the GC there.
In the end it`s quite easy for the riders, which are in the top10 right now. Just finish higher than the guys behind. But this obviously sounds easier than it actually is.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_6_346.jpg

7 riders in todays breakaway. All of them are back in the overall and won`t be a danger.
Hansen (Pivovarna)
Zaballa (CSC)
Mundle (Sauber)
Kwok (Meiji)
Boeckmans (Bpost)
Van Asbroeck (HTC)
Koretzky (Evian)

Most interesting of course Adam Hansen. The Pivovarna rider was the most successful Australian so far and is winner of the KoM jersey. Today he probably wants to avoid any crashes in the peloton and presents the jersey in the breakaway.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_6_348.jpg

Mainly airBaltic for Docker and Sram are doing the pace. Hollister isn`t doing anything although Davis would still be a good bet. Maybe they want to save the energy for the sprint preparations.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_6_350.jpg

No interest at all at the interemediate. All riders are way behind in the GC. Van Asbroeck, Hansen and Boeckmans pass the line first.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_6_352.jpg

It looks different at the KoM. There is no real reason for it but Hansen also fights for the points here and sprints to the first collecting 6 more points. Zaballa and Boeckmans are next. The Spaniard just equalized Nielsen`s 2nd in this ranking and has the chance to collect more later.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_6_354.jpg

Again no interest at the sprint. Zaballa, Kwok and Boeckmans take the small price money.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_6_356.jpg

This one was a bit harder for Hansen but still he wins this KoM sprint. Zaballa takes important 4 points and is 2nd now ahead of Nielsen. Mundle leads the rest of the group over the line.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_6_358.jpg

Zaballa isn`t waiting for the others but instead going for another attack right after the KoM. Still 20km to go but teh peloton was coming closer and closer with 2min behind.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_6_361.jpg

3km later the gap is down to 1'13 and the breakaway is together again. Zaballa`s attack only led to a bad cooperation in between these 7.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_6_363.jpg

11km and down to 37s. Sram is doing most work now with airBaltic and also Hollister starting to position their sprinters.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_6_365.jpg

With less than 5km to go Boeckmans is the last man being caught. He really fought in the end but the sprinter teams were too strong.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_6_367.jpg

Only one long sprint train today. Keisse and Wegmann lead out Haussler in a perfect position. Behind him Australien champion Docker won the small fight for the best wheel. Former GC leader Gavazzi also in a nice position just behind. Davis, Van Loocke, Rasmussen, Kreder, Feillu, Peeters, Hutarovych, Haidar Anuawar, Sutton and Manan in this order also hang on this long train.
Interesting to see Rasmussen there today. For the first time Oz seems to feel well in the sprints and Rasmussen, who finished way behind the peloton in the recent days seems to have a better day and the flat course surely suits him better.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_6_376.jpg

1,3km to go and Haussler accelerates. This way he won 2 stages in this years Tour Down Under. Behind him Docker and Gavazzi in an excellent position. In especially Gavazzi must be motivated by knowing that the 2nd today will bring him the overall victory.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_6_378.jpg

Haussler isn`t as strong today as on his previous wins. Still 700m left and Docker starts to come around. And it also looks good for Jaguar and Dowsett. Gavazzi wasn`t able to follow these two and actually Davis is coming fast from behind.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_6_380.jpg

This will be very close between Haussler and Docker. Win number 3 or the first Australian stage win?

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_6_382.jpg

It`s the first Australian win and the crowd goes crazy. Quite unexpected that it`s Docker and not Davis being the only Australian stage winner in the Tour Down Under 2013. Davis wins the fight against Gavazzi for 3rd and so Dowsett wins a big trophy and Jaguar continues to be strong even without Bellis.
Rasmussen with a nice 6th today behind Feillu and ahead of Peeters. Krederm Manan and Hutarovych are the last in the top10.
For Haussler it`s still enough to win the point jersey ahead of Davis and Docker. His advantage was far too big.
Dowsett also winning the U23 jersey while the team ranking is shared between a few teams.

For Allan Davis it was a rather disappointing journey to Australia. After two very successful seasons he leaves his home country without a single win in 2013.

And due to the big amount of riders within the same time consistency was key to get a good overall here. Some riders like Hermans or Mehr-Wenige were also doing pretty well on the flat stages while others like the Amex guys were often found in the end of the peloton there, which led to quite a few changes from 6-32 today. Big winners obviously the two mentioned riders while Kump and Betancourt surely belong to the biggest loser today.
